Sapience has announced that Bullroarer is now open with the Volume 3, Book 1 – Patch 1 scheduled to go live soon.
I’ll go ahead and post the release notes here as well. Most of these are “fixes” however, there are some interesting things to note as well regarding the Inn League and some of the upcoming Summer Festival as well! I’m not sure if the Summer Festival is live on the server or not, but you can bet we’ll find out soon!

I posted yesterday about the new Fraps release and while I had tested it out a little bit, I hadn’t actually tried creating a video for upload onto YouTube. I decided that as I was working on my Rune-keeper I would take a video of the scenery on the way from Saeradan’s Cabin to Candaith at the foot of Weathertop. This was my first time on that new horse route so I was curious how it would take the player, but I figured there would be some good sight-seeing along the way. I captured the entire trip on Ultra-high visual quality (DIrectX 9 though) so things do look pretty spectacular, see for yourself below:

Raskolnikov added a post to the forums yesterday asking the community to help him design a new type of Fell-spirit monster for the game. They are to have a combination of fear and frost abilities and will have both a melee and ranged version. There are of course rules as to what they can an can’t do:
- Skills / Abilities should be interactive, thematic, or both.
- Must be solo-able by any class. Also, must be a Normal mob (not Signature or Elite).
- No new animations or FX.
- Keep the skills / abilities simple, but obvious.

There’s a post out today from Sapience explaining why the horse vendor was removed.
The issue isn’t the vendor, but the item itself. Removing the vendor, blocked access to the item and thus the issue. We could not remove the offending item from the vendor nor fix the item without a client side patch, but we can disable the vendor without a patch. That’s why we’ve taken this approach until our previously scheduled patch window.
As I’ve mentioned in other posts, we had to make a call; fix one thing now, or 20-30 things plus this thing in several weeks. Because of our release windows, doing the one thing now means pushing the other 20-30 out to an unknown period of time. We opted to add the horse issue to an already scheduled patch and make the festival and the vendor available for a longer period of time to compensate.

I feel just down right silly for not having this as an Outside LOTRO before now. I’ve been following the Tolkien Professor for months now, chatting on twitter, linked to it from our facebook and even mentioned it in the official forums. However, I some how missed making a post on our actual blog. Duh!
Dr. Corey Olson is a professor at Washington College and has a podcast series dedicated to Tolkien’s works which he calls “The Tolkien Professor”. He has been podcasting since July 2009 which are all really interesting and I completely recommend. He covers all things Tolkien in a fun and engaging way.

It appears the CStM is jam packed with March birthdays! Today happens to be the birthday of my real life and gaming partner, Merric. Everything returns to right in the world as he is once again older than me and I can tease him for being so old.
I hope you have a very happy birthday with lots of cakes, teas and other hobbity treats! <3

A few days ago, I found myself in a fellowship working my way through the quest chain at Ivorel's Camp in the Scuttledells. Now despite the fact that the group was made up of kinsfolk and allies, it had the dynamic of the most dysfunctional PUG. I think its something about the Scuttledells themselves that seems to purge all sense of navigation and orderly progress. We stumbled about without a coherent plan, frequently got lost, even splitting up to maximise the chaos. In some respects it was like being in an episode of Scooby-Doo (which beggars the question, who was Velma Dinkley). It was immense fun and reminded me of how the game use to be about a year ago, when fellowships were far more common.
The final quest in the chain was a solo instance entitled "A Cornered Foe". Gollum is holed up in a cave in the Scuttledells and imminently about to be captured and taken back to Dol Guldur. For some reason, this is a bad thing, so you find yourself involved in a rescue attempt. Now this is far from an outstanding instance and the task in hand is hardly taxing. But as it involves Gollum, it instantly become a lot more enjoyable. I never tracked down the quest in the Tal Bruinen, where he allegedly pops up in Volume I, and took great pleasure in discovering his pool and Banksy style wall art in Goblin town.
