Volume 3 launched a few days ago. There’s lots of good info (and podcasts) at Casual Stroll to Mordor and LotRO Reporter as usual if you want details on the patch.

What I wanted to mention is how much more I enjoyed the new content than I expected to. When I first read how Volume 3: Book 1 was starting out, I was disappointed. It felt like a rehash of old content. Going back to old areas and talking to rangers that I had met before. In practice it was actually a good deal of fun. The quests were pretty quick for the most part. There were some interesting story tidbits which I won’t go into for spoiler reasons. Best of all several of the missions took place in pretty cool instances, one of the neatest was the ice cave in Forochel.

Book 1 was pretty quick, around three or four hours at most, and is entirely solo. There is one skirmish where you can group up but all of the instances are solo instances, and the rest is easy open world stuff.

“Tell the Community Team” is where Turbine asks for the players to give them direct and specific feedback about a specific topic. This is really a fantastic opportunity for you to give your thoughts and opinions about the game directly to Turbine to think about.

These “Tell the Community Team” questions focus on Outreach and Information They have three questions they are looking for you to give them feedback on:

  1. What is your primary source of LOTRO information?
    1- Friends/Kinship
    2- Official LOTRO websites.
3- Unofficial LOTRO sites, blogs, podcasts.
    4- Other. Please explain.
  2. We’re always looking for new ways to communicate with the community. Name two ways you wish we’d use more, or start using (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Podcasts, Semaphore, etc).
  3. Name two features you’d like to see added to my.lotro.com.

Posted yesterday on the official forums was an update by the Systems Team concerning resistances that monsters have in PvE.  Monsters normally have have about a 1% resistance rate at low levels that slowly rises at a pre-configured rate until it reaches around 10%.  However, shortly after the release of Mirkwood it was discovered that after level 43 monster resistances “…dropped down by exactly half, and stayed that way all the way to level cap.”  What this means is that all tactical damage done to a monsters post level 43 was more than it should have been.

What does this mean?  Well, with Book 1 the resistance rates have been fixed and they should now be at around 10% for all levels past 43.  Of course this resistance can be reduced with traits, gears, and legacy options.  All other resistances remain the same, considering that they were never affected in the first place.  Of course if you fight monsters that are higher level, are located in specific spaces within the game, or have special buffs/natural resistances then you may find that resistance rate higher.  So if you travel back to Mirkwood and discover that you’re now hitting for less with tactical skills you’ll know why.
