Sapience of Turbine, in trademarked Incredisoon style, announced yesterday that Turbine will be opening four new servers for our gaming pleasure!
The servers will be named as follows:
- Riddermark
- Crickhollow
- Dwarrowdelf
- Imladris
These servers will be available on a first-come, first-”served” basis, starting September 8th for Head Start players, and September 10 for all others. (Check here to see if you are eligible for the earlier start date.) Sapience also noted that the forums for the new servers are up and running, in order to help the flocks of people organize themselves and their friends. For those of you with 67 alts who just NEED to have 9 new characters to love, head on over to the new servers, make some new friends, and bring our well-renowned LOTRO community spirit to some new players arriving soon, very soon, ultra soon, uber soon….. You get the idea!
Happy gaming!

Narrel writes today about how LUA scripting came about for LOTRO in the most recently released Dev Diary. He was hired as a game systems engineer for LOTRO in late 2007 and eventually “…became the ‘go-to guy’ for UI on my team.” Dissatisfied with the current UI he eventually started working with “ForsakenArcher” and “Agiclaw”, to of the internal tools engineers at Turbine, and they began discussing, planning and working on a prototype for the LUA system. To paraphrase, after internal testing, meetings, and with help from “Frosty” they were given the approval and the opportunity to introduce it with the Volume 3.2 testing.
So what does LUA do and what is it capable of? Well, quite a bit actually, but the implementation in LOTRO has actually been limited on purpose by Turbine.

The long awaited diary on the new Lua Scripting has been posted with some very cool insight from Narrel on the process to get Lua scripting into the game. Even more exciting is the confirmation that Lua Scripting will be in the game at launch of F2P. Granted Narrel does put some caveats in there, but assuming all goes well it will be in launch.
I’m always fascinated about how these things progress and appreciate the insight on how the internals of Turbine work. This certainly sounds like an impressive effort from Narrel, ForsakenArcher, Agiclaw and Frosty with the support of the whole dev team I’m sure. It was also very encouraging to see the beta community step up and not only try things out but post some pretty darn cool UI scripts.

Today we make our way to The Ford Of Bruinen, The ford of the River Bruinen or Loudwater that lay at the entrance to the valley of Rivendell, said to be under the power of Elrond. The last bulwark leading into the hidden vale of Rivendell. Orcs in the service of Angmar lay siege at the Ford, seeking to break through the defences of Imladris.

Falathorn Day is a player event taking place in the Falothorn Homesteads across the servers of LOTRO. The idea was originally started by Whart and is springing into a LOTRO wide event! The idea is to bring people into the homesteads for a good time and hopefully draw some interest to using the homesteads as social gathering grounds.
When: Sunday, September 19, round the clock

While loading the client up this morning, I noticed the following note:
ALERT: If you currently have active crafting consignment quests, please cancel or complete these quests before server maintenance begins on Tuesday, Sept 7. These quests (available in Overhill, Silverdeep Mine, Combe Lumber Camp, or Duillond) will no longer be available once Volume III, Book 2 goes live.
For those of you who haven’t done these (I’ll admit I just started myself) you essentially are paying an NPC to go off and farm materials for you, up to Artisian level. You travel to the NPC and there will be a few different options for the different skill levels and based on your level you purchase the right one. Using those items creates a new quest which is essentially a timer and at the end of the timer you return to the NPC and they present you with a key to a chest with the appropriate crafting ingredients. There isn’t a ton of ingredients but usually a handful of the different types including chances for some of the crit items. These can be pretty handy for leveling up alts or in augmenting your resource gathering at the lower levels. They’re also nice for cases where you can’t gather resources for yourself. Case in point, the Historian includes weapon-smithing but no prospecting, so these quests can help quite a bit.

Belegedan of Landroval asks:
I’d like to play a melee class that uses a 2-handed weapon for leveling, but does not have pets. My Guardian uses Sword + Shield; and my Burg and Hunter both dual-wield. I’ve been told that Champions should dual-wield as well.
Captain and lore-master are pet classes, which I really don’t want to play. (I’d consider Captain, but I’m heard on the roundtable that they should level with their Herald pet rather than banners.)
Can I level my Guardian or my Champion with a 2-hander, or am I losing out? Am I missing a class I should be considering?

Hello everyone. As you know the new LOTRO patch will launch on September 10th (or 8th if you are in the headstart). This new patch will bring some changes to the levels which skills are acquired. This changes go all the way up to level 30. I will change the Blog in the next days to represent this changes. I’ve also compiled a small chart with the skills that will change in levels:

This week we cover the areas for leveling from 51-60 and the skills you will attain from them.
Having reached level 50 and finishing your level 50 class quest you can finish up in Eregion and move into Moria, which is like nothing you have ever seen. Gaining access to Moria requires the purchase of the Moria expansion and the completion of Volume 2 Book 1 of the epic quest line, so we are going to operate on the assumption that you have both of these taken care of. After entering Moria you will first notice that it is huge with multiple quest hubs. The first few are levels 50-56 and then the lower levels are 55-60.
Another option once you are in the level 55-56 range is to quest in the outer Moria pre-Lothlorien areas for reputation with the Elves of Lothlorien which will grant you access to the Lothlorien areas. There are two Factions of Dwarves in Moria for reputation the Miners and the Guards. Both of them have decent
