With PAX behind me, I thought I’d take the time to share some of my thoughts about my time at the Turbine booth, and some of the things that came up in our interview with Rowan. We’ll have more information up in the next few days, but I wanted to give a quick overview today.

First, and I think most importantly, the Turbine booth was full every time we walked by. There were lots of people trying out DDO and LOTRO every time we walked by, and they seemed to be enjoying it. We met many people out on the convention floor, at restaurants, and waiting in line that were either currently playing LOTRO or were going to once the game went F2P.

Recently, I have been contributing towards the "Mordor Or Bust" podcast, endeavouring to provide a European perspective on LOTRO. It has been a very enjoyable experience but a very steep learning curve. The mechanics of recording and editing is only part of the procedure. Learning to speak naturally and simply becoming comfortable with the sound of your own voice, is another and potentially harder. Once you've been involved in this process, you begin to appreciate the work that others have put into their respective productions.

Do you have a friend who is thinking of starting to play LOTRO on September 10th when Free to Play launches?

Wish they could start playing with you on the 8th when the head start launches?

Haven’t played LOTRO yet and can’t wait until the 10th?

Did You Know…

Here is a bit of interesting random trivia:  Did you ever notice, when playing an Elf character, that wild animals, such as foxes and hares, do not run away from you the way they run from Dwarves, Men, and Hobbits?  Also, Elves are unable to harm those innocent creatures, while the other races may (if they desire to be so cranky and mean!)  I thought that was a cool testiment to the lore of Tolkien’s world, where Elves are basically a peace-loving people, thoroughly at harmony with nature and the creatures of field and forest.

Speaking of harmony and peace, did you realize that if you do not want to see blood and guts during gameplay, you can turn that function off?  Go to Options –> UI Options –> and uncheck “Enable Blood Effects”.  I don’t need to see all that messy stuff!

What is happening regarding the launch of LOTRO F2P in Europe?

Tempers are beginning to fray on the European LOTRO Forums, due to the lack of information about aspects of the F2P launch. The picture above was taken from an email sent to me from Turbine, regarding my US account. EU players have had no such notification. At present we do not know if we are to getting the head start option, like our US counterparts on 8th September. Nor has there been any news of a pre-launch games patch. There hasn't even been any official announcement as to when the EU servers will be closed to facilitate the upgrade.

Perspective is a very important aspect of anything visual – from photographs to sketches – because it is how we see and interpret things every day.  And there are a lot of different components that go into photographs or screenshots to make them more or less appealing.

Framing Your Subject

A nice trick to bring emphasis to your subject is to “frame” it.  Typically that involves using existing items in the scene to set up a “frame” around your subject.

Finally!

Since most players in my kin (including myself) is casual players it can be quite hard to get a good group for the 6 and 12-man instances in LOTRO, but yesterday we did get a nice group to do Sammath Gûl. It was my first time and I really liked it.

It also meant i could now get my final rad-piece and I’m now ready for the greater challenges ahead. I also got the Bregloch earring, which sadly enough is really nice compared to my other crappy jewelery, I really have to do something about that.

Besides SG there has been a lot of deed-grinding going on for me lately. Trying to get those virtues up a notch, and fixing my legendary traits. My Hunter is now actually starting to look like a pretty solid build and all I really need is some new jewelery. A second or first age bow would also be nice of course, but my third age will be fine for now.
