With the launch of Free to Play just a few days away, I’ve put together a list of resources for new players to use when they are starting to play the game.
Look at the Class Columns that we’ve got here on LOTRO Reporter.
Friday, September 10th marks the start of a new era for Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) and we want to be there welcoming the new folks in with open arms! We have decided to host a live podcast event on launch day and do our best to inform and entertain the LOTRO masses.
Join us live: Friday September 10th at 9:00pm Eastern (-4 GMT)
Okay, so I had planned to wait a bit longer to log in again but this morning I threw caution to the wind and decided to check out the new features of the recent update. I was also really curious about what was going to make it from Beta to Live in the LotRO store.
I was happy to see that the store was working fine and so far I have only purchased two items (but I will be purchasing more in the days ahead). The very first thing was the new Wardrobe feature. I have been waiting for this so I can share bound items cosmetically with my other characters. In particular I wanted to share the Cloak of the Cluck which I soloed a few years ago on my old Main. Getting to Rivendell on my own on a level 1 Chicken was probably my single biggest solo achievement and now I can share the awesome cloak with all my characters!
As I mentioned a couple weeks back, I’ve started up a Champion and have been leveling her up as my schedule just hasn’t worked well for raiding at all and I’m burnt out on Mirkwood dailies. As the above picture shows, I’ve made my way to Rivendell (small rant on that later) and I’m sporting my nice armor set hand crafted by my Captain.
To recap a bit, I’ve recently hit level 32 and finally got Clobber so I can start feeling more Champ like and actually interrupt stuff. It has been killing me seeing all the heal inductions and just having to power through, but no more! I’m having an absolute blast playing the class, partially because I’m just not concerned about dying. I keep trying to test myself and run into mobs, sometimes pulling more then I intend, trying to take down as much as I can. Luckily later on Champs start to get a couple more “oh-crap” buttons so I’m a bit more resilient then I was previously.
Hi, and welcome to this wonderful game we call Lord of the Rings Online. I think you’ll like it here. The people are really friendly, the scenery is beautiful, and the adventure is second to none! Since you’re new to the neighbourhood, I thought that I could give you a few tips to help you get the most of your time here.
In this episode, we take a look at Warden Trainer Lite by Galuhad, a plugin specifically designed for Wardens in order to make remembering and performing gambits a lot easier.
I like this plugin for a number of reasons, mainly because it reads what gambits you know and only allows you to use those instead of just having a pre-created list of all the gambits in the game. Once installed, you load the the plugin either by using the previously reviewed Plugin Manager or by using the /plugins load WardenTrainerLite command and you’re set! I think I will be using this mostly as a reminder to complete my deeds for now. What I would like to see in the future is a way to assign hotkeys to gambits or maybe a quick menu so that I can quickly change between gambits rather than having to use a menu, but for now this suites my purpose quite nicely.
Posted today in the LOTRO European forums is news that the Free-to-Play launch for Codemasters is being delayed. Mike Roland, Producer of LOTRO for Codemasters, states in the post:
Given the complexities and challenges faced in the preparation and implementation of the new store to work within our infrastructure, we feel more time is needed to deliver the high level of service our players have quite rightly come to expect.
Codemasters finally made a formal statement regarding the launch of LOTRO EU F2P. Unfortunately, as many surmised, the news was not good. The EU launch has been delayed and at present there are no details regarding a revised schedule. The cause of delay seems to be the implementation of the in game store, although the exact specifics were not discussed. As the store is an integral aspect of the revised game, there could not be a F2P launch without its inclusion.
Does this means that a lot of new players from the EU will simply take up residence in the US instead? Well I'm sure the four new servers added for F2P can accommodate them. There's certainly a lot to ponder. Turbine have stated in the past, the desire to reclaim control of their international products. DDO is an example of this. It would also be prudent to consider the projected revenue that F2P will generate. Why share that with third parties? It has also been reported that multiple language support is being added to the official US LOTRO website.
Growing and harvesting fruit is a surprisingly large and rewarding area farmers can choose to specialize in. There are a variety of different fruits that come into season from as early as spring to as late as fall.
Raspberries
These delicious red berries grow on bushes and make excellent jam and ice cream topping. They’re a little more tart than some other berries, but when cooked with sugar the tartness is easily overcome.

While today marks the official start of the LOTRO Free-to-Play Head Start, Turbine had the servers up last night for folks to hop on and explore even earlier.
I have to say that that Turbine deserves kudos for their very cleanly executed launch. I had absolutely no problem with the entire operation. The patch went very quickly and easily with no issues. There was a queue to get onto Landroval but I was playing in a few short minutes and when I opened the store, I had 4500 available points from the loyalty rewards with more trickling in due to reputation I had.
I have not yet purchased anything in the store but I know Merric did go ahead and purchase additional Wardrobe space and things went very smoothly for him.
