So you want to be a millionaire huh? A friend of mine once told me that if you want to become a millionaire you need to do one or more of the following:

  • Do something better than someone else.
  • Do something no one else does.
  • Do something no one else wants to do.

vaultThis simple philosophy can be very risky in a real world application, but in LOTRO can be a very powerful idea that can earn you lot’s of gold and silver. I can see several of you asking, “But Azz, what good is in-game gold anyway?” I do see your point. With the latest strategy from Turbine to “gate” new goodies behind barter items and reputation, I can see that the inherent value of in game currency has been diminished somewhat. However, there are still many uses for our precious hordes of gold.

  • Repairs
  • Older reputation items/mounts
  • Vault Space
  • Housing
  • Auction House Purchases

Meta-Deeds Part I: Savior of Eriador

Savior of EriadorSome time ago Turbine added in Meta-Deeds which would grant rewards when completed. All of the Meta-Deeds currently in-game offer both a very rare mount, which incidentally is only available through the Meta-Deeds, a unique title, and Turbine Points.

These deeds are not easy to complete and not for the faint at heart. There is a lot of grinding involved. Grinding it the more difficult places in the game.

This post will briefly touch on the age old debate of Casual vs. Hardcore. While it is not my goal to rehash past debates; I feel it pertinent to give my opinion on the matter so as to provide a reference point from which the following has been spawned.

I would like to first, try and present this from my point of view, because this is a post on how I see it. I consider myself a casually hardcore gamer. I aspire to some of the hardcore play styles and tasks, but am limited by other obligations that take a higher priority to my gaming, hence the casual. I do not view it as either/or, or mutually exclusive, but more of a sliding scale from one extreme to another. I am somewhere in the middle, but more on the hardcore side if that makes any sense.

When I refer to raiding I will be referring to the 12-mans in LOTRO, i.e Rift, Vile Maw, Dar Narbugund, Barad Guldur, and any of the skirmishes that provide for 12-man runs.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Eyefinity, it is a new feature from ATI on their newest generation of video cards.  While I will not go into the specifics, which you can read here, it is essentially an advanced version of an extended desktop over multiple monitors, but usable in applications.  My system specs as to provide a point of reference:

  • CPU: AMD Phenom II 955 @ 3.6 gHz
  • Motherboard: ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO
  • Memory: G Skill DDR3 1600 (8 GB)
  • Hard Drive: Seagate 640 GB
  • Video Card: HIS 5850 @ 900/core, 1225/memory (Running ASUS bios)
  • PSU: PC Power and Cooling 750 W
  • Monitors:  3 Samsung 2243
  • Case: Antec Skeleton (Included because it is very unique and keeps everything VERY cool)

Angmar

Angmar back in it’s hay day used to be the place where dungeon-crawling raiding end-gamers would spend most of their time during the “good old days” of Shadows of Angmar. This region offered many ways to spend your time running through quest, dungeons/raids, hunting for ore, wood, and beryl shards. This look at the Angmar Hub will consist of a brief overview of the dungeons and raids available to any would be adventure seeker.

With the new year I thought about a few changes I could make as far as my blog goes. While the last few month's have not seen very many posts, and rl taking a good chunk of my time, I have decided to put my blog on hiatus.

Merric and Goldenstar have been gracious enough to allow me to post on A Casual Stroll to Mordor a few times and I very much appreciate that. They haven even graciously extended an inivitation to write for them on a more than temporralily basis, to which I have accepted.

I look forward to working with them as we strive to showcase what a great game and community we have.  I want to thank everyone who has supported and visited this blog and ask you to move with me over to my new cyber home.  So for now it's "Out with the old and in with the new". Harpist One of the most under valued and over looked systems available in LOTRO is the music system. We have all seen people or groups just standing around strumming away on their instruments.

I recall seeing them and thinking that that must take some real talent to be able to play those songs on a keyboard. Since that time I have been educated in the fascinating and highly addictive realm of the LOTRO Music System.
