Housing in LotRO is one of the more fun parts of the game. It’s a little place to call “home” in Middle-earth and a place to show off your personal taste and your character’s trophies. During the free to play transition, housing was a hot topic for some players. Suggested changes, price drops and other issues have been brought up on the beta forums and the General LotRO forums.
Kiarane from Casual Stroll to Mordor is a housing diva in LotRO. She has an article on the site where she discusses decorating homes. There is also a very in-depth document Kiarane created with every cosmetic housing item you can think of. I couldn’t think of anyone else to interview. Kiarane was happy to interview with me and happy to decorate my player home on Landroval. I must say, she did a beautiful job!

Image Unrelated.
Last night, I wrote why my own “Premium Experiment” lasted a day before I subscribed again. I had a few people asking me on Twitter and on the site here how I figured this out. They also asked what type of player I based this on meaning a casual player, etc.
Premium Players are viable if you are in two categories. Either you spend less than 10 hours a week in LotRO or you are planning on playing LotRO for a long time. Premium accounts will cost you about $220. This unlocks all the quest hubs, shared storage, extra bank slots, extra auction slots and the premium classes. This is about the same price as a LotRO lifetime subscription.

I decided to log onto my Warden Lansirel. She is in her 30s and well into Evendim at this point. I was concerned because I knew logging onto this toon would give me Turbine Points for the new deeds that are auto-completed. Fortunately, I only ended up with 20 total TP. That wasn’t enough to buy anything with.
Lansirel had been left in Nain Enidh after a Garth Agarwen run gone bad. I had to get back to Evendim and quest some more. Getting there became a big problem.

That lovely Hobbit is Honeymeade. She is a Burglar on the Brandywine server and my Premium Experiment toon. Honeymeade was left at level 9. This way I could level her through the areas as a Premium account player and not have anything buffed up like deeds finished, etc. I also did not log into my higher level toons since the new deeds are completed and have been turned into Turbine Points.
I began in The Shire. My quests were simple enough. All of the starting zone quests I am more than familiar with. I did notice an extra skill Burglar’s have now. That’s all part of what happened in beta. To confirm I had no Turbine Points to start with, I checked the LotRO Store. Nno points.

Lunna’s videos have been featured before here on LotRO Reporter. Her videos following the Fellowship deserve even more of a mention. They’re a well-done re-creation of the path the Fellowship took from The Shire all the way to Mordor. The most recent is part 3 “Into Khazad-Dum“. It follows the path of the Fellowship out of Rivendell and into Moria. The video includes Gimli’s tale of “Durin’s Awakening” set to music by the Lonely Mountain Band.
Lunna’s ability to capture Middle-earth is amazing. As you watch it, you almost forget for a moment you are looking at video game graphics. Instead, the books seem to come to life thanks to her virtual eye for the landscapes and music set behind each video. To watch all three videos, check Lunna’s YouTube channel.

LotRO’s free to play is launching September 10th. Beta participants, current and past subscribers will be getting a headstart on September 8th. For the time being, there is a noticeable lull in LotRO. Players are taking a little break in anticipation of new content and changes coming. Some are wandering around bored with nothing to do in their favorite game.
Here are 5 things you can do while you wait for free to play to launch.
