The only bind on equip armour drops from the new instances that present a new cosmetic appearance are two sets of light armour. All medium and heavy armour pieces I have come across, share appearance with Isengard quest rewards. I have shared one of the sets in a previous post. The set in this post is another light armour set, but I seem to be unable to complete it. I have not found any shoulders or boots that would be part of this set, so I am beginning to wonder if there are any? I only have the chest, legs and gloves. The boots in this picture, belong to the other light armour set. Perhaps there are only three pieces to this set, but I would appreciate any info on that if you have some!

My low level captain has been roaming around Frostbluff helping the poor, so the shabby cap seemed the perfect accessory to this outfit.

beardy

A day after Turbine’s “Guide,” TenTonHammer put out a guide like one could hope for – an actual guide that walks through the fight and helps folks prepare for it.

The guide walks through many aspects that you’ll need to handle as you try to take down the big guy:

Minstrels and Captains as Real Life Healers

In the frozen land of Nador they were forced to eat Robin’s  minstrels. And there was much rejoicing.

When I first started playing LOTRO and saw that the primary healers were called “minstrels” and played music to restore health, the first thing I thought was, “That’s stupid.”

After all, it really does seem kind of silly that your healer is standing in the back playing a flute/theorbo/harp/cowbell.  I can accept the idea of the rune-keeper or lore master as healers.  After all, Middle Earth is a fantastical world, and it seemed to me that those two classes draw their power from a kind of magic.  But you can’t tell me that a guy with a lute is going to heal me after a giant steps on me or an orc tries to run me through with its spear.

A Captain’s Guide to Power Healing

I’ve heard Lore-masters complain from time to time that they don’t like being thought of as nothing more than a battery for their group, as if they are only there to supply power on demand. Well, now they can rest easy because captains can now step up to the plate and be generators for their fellowship.

After playing around with various trait lines and builds in the past week, I’ve found that if I make an effort to do so, I can keep my entire fellowship at full power (or close enough) most of the time. Under the right circumstances (meaning, at least four defeat responses per minute), I’ve found that I can generate approximately 2,600* power per minute for every member of the fellowship, with my Song-brother target receiving around 3,900* power per minute. Here are my tips for how to keep your fellowship (and yourself!) powered up to take on whatever comes your way.

I won’t go into every single trait you should slot or legendary item legacy you should use, as I feel that’s up to the individual player and their play-style. These are just the portions of my build I use to get the most out of my power generating abilities.

While you wait for the patching and servers to come live, there are certainly enough patch notes to keep you busy.

I don’t expect too many changes, but as always there are a few things that we haven’t seen.

We’ve seen and heard quite a bit about what’s happening on the Creep side of things out in the Ettenmoor, today Kelsen walks us through what we can expect on the Freep side.  And there are some cool shinies that are making me do the math of how much I need to be in the moors to get those ranks!

With all the news of late, it has been hard to keep track – so I wanted to put this post up as a sticky and will keep it updated as new things come out.

I’ve been using the Rise of Isengard tag on all my RoI related posts, so you can always check out that tag on the lower right side of the blog.  Or there’s a Pull-down menu for this under the LOTRO button on the top of the page.  The newest information bubbles to the top such that you can see the latest information first.

You can also use the class pull-down from the top menu if there’s a class of interest that I cover which will show each class with the newest post at the top.  I’ve been trying to keep up with my main classes, Captain, Warden, Minstrel, and Champion, and Psychobabble has been doing a great job keeping things updated on the Lore-masters.

Wow, Turbine’s kicking out all sorts of news today – which I was hoping for since Gamescom is going on right now.  Today’s diary comes from Tim “Raskolnikov” Lang as he walks through a composite of all the changes to the class.  Not too much has changed from the earlier posts but there are some good nuggets.

One of the concepts he mentions up front is that they wanted the Captain to have 3 distinct trait lines as well as spreading the primary role of Buffing out to all the lines.  I’m torn on this one as I’m still not totally sold on the Captain really tanking, but possibly off-tanking will be more important and the Captain will be able to fill that role quite well.

I’ve been trying to figure out what’s going on with my iTunes feed which is why this episode is delayed.  I believe if you delete the podcast and re-add it back to iTunes it should work, but please keep me posted if you guys still have issues.  Episode 18 should be up shortly as well…

Today Raskolnikov posted the second iteration of the Captain class and there are some big ones here.  Some I like, and some I’ll be nice and put in the “wait-and-see” bucket ;)   Here’s a link to my thoughts on the 1st pass, as well as a nice forum post that combines the two into one post.

A couple corrections up front, only one of the Brother (Shield, Blade, or Song) can be active at any given time.  And the 2-set bonus for the Leader of Men line has been tweaked to include both the Improved Kick bonus as well as the 10 second Mark skills cooldown reduction.  Enough of the small stuff, lets get into the meat of it.
