The other day I read an interesting request on the suggestions forum for more “sensible” clothing in Lalia’s Market. The player making the request points out that he would love to see a larger selection of common shirts, pants and hats in the market, to satisfy the needs of those who prefer to explore Middle-earth in a simple and lore-appropriate outfit rather than elaborate armour with ornaments and sometimes even quite extravagant designs. I completely understand the request and wholeheartedly support it (as to me there can never be enough choice when it comes to cosmetics), but for the moment I would also like to point out, just like some others have in that thread, that you are not entirely without options currently when it comes to dressing up more “sensibly”. I agree with the OP that most “commoner” outfits are onesies, leaving no customization options other than the dye colour and perhaps some shoulders and a cloak. The fun thing about outfitting is finding the right combination, and when everything is already pre-made, it kind of takes away from the fun. However, some of those onesies can be used quite effectively for the right ragged looks, so I’ve tried to come up with an outfit for my hobbit lass that looks like it’s seen better days.

gentle approach

December has started which to me is the beginning of the Winter season and lots of wintery outfits! I am really looking forward to this month which is always special as we approach Yule tide. One of the things to look forward to is the Yule Festival that will start at the end of December. This festival is now available for testing on Bullroarer. The way it is going to be set up this year worries me greatly. There will be some very large “end” rewards like War-steed cosmetics and a special Yule portrait for your character, however these bigger rewards, including the regular festival horse, will be gated behind new deeds. The top tier of these deeds will require 200 daily quests completed. The fact that these quests are dailies, means that if you miss a few days, or  even a whole week, (because you spend time with your family during the holiday season!), you won’t be able to complete the deed and miss out on those end rewards. The solution? Buy reset tokens in the Lotro store and complete more daily quests at once!
This is very sad news to me, and once more I feel disappointed about the choices Turbine is making regarding the festivals, the grinds and the lotro store. Festivals used to be a fun break from it all, something easy and enjoyable to hop into and do at your own pace in your own time. Of course you can still participate that way, but that kind of casual approach will likely lock you out of the bigger rewards, which will be available to hard-core grinders only. On top of that, any accumulated gold tokens will be wiped after the festival, so next festival you will have to start all over again.
This is how it currently stands on Bullroarer. I really hope and pray that we’ll see something more casual player friendly when the festival goes live.

I have a golden steed! And her name is Laurë, which means golden light in Quenya.

Thanks to the unannounced Lotro store sale this weekend, with 50% off steed color dye packs, I’ve been able to furnish my main character with all possible color options, and my alt characters with a few selected packs. Everyone is at a loss as to how long this sale is going to last, as it isn’t announced anywhere on the store page, and while writing this post the sale is still on.
I have been looking forward to playing with my war-steed appearance options since release, but was deeply disappointed and discouraged when I saw the prices. Now with 50% off, the color packs have finally come within my reach and I busted my piggy bank of TP that I had been saving up for this purpose. I can finally make combined war-steed outfits!
The transformation from dull grey gelding to light golden mare amazed me and I totally fell in love with my steed for the first time. I’m sure I will try out many more appearances now that I have access to everything, but Laurë will always be special.

Since my last post about my disappointment with the warsteed dye colour system, many players have expressed similar sentiments, especially those players who derive a lot of joy from the outfitting system in Lotro. There is one more thing I would like to address, before I leave this issue behind and just accept it for what it is.
Let me make absolutely clear that I am not on a crusade against the Lotro store. I am not encouraging anyone to avoid it or refrain from purchases out of some (quite possibly fruitless) attempt to sway Turbine’s store policies. So if you feel comfortable paying for steed colours within the current price range, by all means do so and enjoy the purchases that you make. I have expressed my own opinions and feelings on this blog regarding the current warsteed colour system, but if other players make different choices, I have nothing but respect for that. More than anything I want people to think and decide for themselves, as everyone’s situation is different.

Riders of Rohan is going to change this wonderful game forever. Most certainly for the better, as I believe the majority of changes and the beautiful new Rohan regions are a much needed breath of fresh air. It’s going to be amazing, and most of us are looking forward to it with much anticipation. No doubt Turbine staff will be holding their breath tomorrow as they keep monitoring the download servers on the day of release. Those days are not like other days, and usually extremely stressful for everyone. I expect to get stuck on the launcher or not enter at all on the first day, but this is all fine with me. Eventually, we all get there, and cross that bridge into Rohan.

Autumn is in full swing now and when the sun comes out everything shines with a magical golden brown glow. I love autumn, even though I can feel that temperatures are dropping. We are less than a week away from the Riders of Rohan launch now and I’m still not finished with everything I wanted to do “before launch”. I spend too much time playing around in stead of doing important stuff like crafting and grinding! Ha!

The Treasure Hunt will be on this week! I was so excited to see the Lotro Calendar updated with several fun events for this month and the next! As the Riders of Rohan expansion has been delayed until October 15th, I guess the community team decided to move the Event schedule around a bit and keep us very very busy collecting all kinds of treasures this month. The Treasure Hunt was launched early this year for the first time and we haven’t seen it return until now. It is an incredibly entertaining and very addictive event that gives some fine cosmetic rewards, some of the most awesome emotes in the game, delightful housing items and a few beautiful unique mounts with high morale and speed. I know that when the event ran last time, I have been digging and digging until my hands bled! If you want to find out what exactly is up for grabs, check out Ketani’s Treasure Hunt guide. Today’s patch notes mentioned some new rewards for the event, so there will be even more goodies to dig up!
Just one warning though: the event is indeed very addictive. The quest cycle which gives you the Treasure Hunt Picks has a rather long cooldown that keeps you waiting impatiently, which can make it very tempting to buy the rather expensive picks in the Lotro store. I would advise against that, but in stead switch to one or two different alts to do the same cycle while you wait for the cooldown on your main to finish. Most rewards are bound to account and can be traded, except for the mounts and some of the major emotes. There is a barter that sells cosmetics and a selection of emotes, and this year a special mount has been added: the Harvest-brew Goat!
All cosmetics are bound to account and can be bought from the barter, except for the Treasure Hunter’s Rucksack, which only drops from digsites.
