While loading the client up this morning, I noticed the following note:
ALERT: If you currently have active crafting consignment quests, please cancel or complete these quests before server maintenance begins on Tuesday, Sept 7. These quests (available in Overhill, Silverdeep Mine, Combe Lumber Camp, or Duillond) will no longer be available once Volume III, Book 2 goes live.
For those of you who haven’t done these (I’ll admit I just started myself) you essentially are paying an NPC to go off and farm materials for you, up to Artisian level. You travel to the NPC and there will be a few different options for the different skill levels and based on your level you purchase the right one. Using those items creates a new quest which is essentially a timer and at the end of the timer you return to the NPC and they present you with a key to a chest with the appropriate crafting ingredients. There isn’t a ton of ingredients but usually a handful of the different types including chances for some of the crit items. These can be pretty handy for leveling up alts or in augmenting your resource gathering at the lower levels. They’re also nice for cases where you can’t gather resources for yourself. Case in point, the Historian includes weapon-smithing but no prospecting, so these quests can help quite a bit.

One of the things that I personally glossed over some are the changes coming up to Crafting in the upcoming release of Free-to-Play; which is ironic since I have a ton of crafters. For those of you who may or may not remember, Jewelers and Cooks had quite a few changes with the release of Volume 3, Book 1. With Volume 3.2 Weaponsmiths and Woodworkers are having some revisions which “…introduces an arsenal of new crafted weapons…” that target not only their stats but their damage types as well. However, it’s important to note that no existing crafted weapons will be changed.
Also, many existing Weaponsmith and Woodworker recipes will now be multi-output (meaning they can create different versions of the same item as can be seen in a previous post) as well, allowing players to better adjust the weapons to have stats that would be more relevant to their playing style. I’m vastly in favor of multi-output recipes and I am very much looking forward to these options. Mostly because it’s fairly frustrating to want to create a weapon for a character and the type that I want is meant for a different playing style.

This will probably have some spill-over for the other classes as well but I wanted to start keeping track of not only some of the better gear options but where some of these things drop. The forums are a great resource for this kind of information but sometimes it can be hard to find and even lost due to forum wipes.
The armor sets are a little easier to keep up with and follow, but I do have some spreadsheets for Wardens, Captains, and Minstrels comparing the various sets statistically and visually.
When it comes to jewelry and cloaks it gets a little bit harder for 2 main reasons. First off there’s just a lot more variety in these areas with crafted, drops, quest rewards, etc that all can be viable in certain cases. But probably the tougher part is that many of these are random boss drops that don’t always drop so it can be hard to not only track them but remember where they dropped from.

I have been pondering how life will be slightly hectic in the lower levels for a bit on September 10th when Free to Play is launched and we welcome our new friends into our starting regions.
This also made me think if there’s anything I should do now so I’m not that annoying 65 pestering the new players. Instead I’d rather be the helpful big sister that will be hanging out in the /advice channel. Here’s what I’ve come up that current players could do now to avoid getting in the way.
Low Level Crafting Material

LotRO’s free to play is launching September 10th. Beta participants, current and past subscribers will be getting a headstart on September 8th. For the time being, there is a noticeable lull in LotRO. Players are taking a little break in anticipation of new content and changes coming. Some are wandering around bored with nothing to do in their favorite game.
Here are 5 things you can do while you wait for free to play to launch.

After seeing Kia’s awesome attempts over at CSTM at making some items from LOTRO, I thought I’d go ahead and add some of the items I have made over the years. These were all made as part of a 850-1000AD reenactment group (Viking era) which I have done for 13-4 years. We are currently on a short break from reenacting as mud huts, open fires, blades, and dirt and small babies do mix very well, but in a year or two when he’s bigger we hope to do some again as it is a great atmosphere for kids to learn and experience things, and friends whose children have been brought up in this atmosphere have benefitted massively from it.
So without further ado:

No, I’m not playing WoW (not that there’s anything wrong with that), but I realized as I’ve had no motivation to play my Runekeeper that I’m really just more into melee classes. After all the ribbing and trashing I’ve given Champions I figured I should give them a fair shake and actually play the class. Plus I haven’t been through the starter zones in a while so I figured it would be good to check them out again since all the revamps. If I had known we were so close to the F2P launch I might have waited until then, but oh well I’m too hooked now to go back.
Below is a shot of me warming up in Trestlebridge in my new level 18 heavy armor. As an aside, I don’t remember it looking as good when I leveled my Captain but maybe it just shows that I prefer looking at females.

Looking for a way to improve your daily meals? Look no further! LOTRO already had it all sorted out for you. Here’s the list of spices and herbs every cook should use to increase your critical chances of success!
Sprig of Allspice
Allspice is a type of pepper usually found in sausages, curry powder, barbecue sauce and cake recipes. You should be able to buy it grounded at your local grocery store. This spice is perfect to season any meat and give extra taste to your favourite steak!

So you have all coveted those rare (soon to be less so) symbols of Celebrimbor right? But have you ever wondered who he was?
Celembrimbor was an elf of the Noldor, whose heritage stretches back to the first age of the world. He was born in Valinor, the land of the Valar to the uttermost West of the world. He was born into great heritage, but also a great doom, as his father was Curufin. Curufin was the fifth son of Feanor, who later made the Simarils, and through the deceits of Morgoth lost them to Him, and led the Noldor through misery and turmoil back to Beleriand, and set them on an accursed quest to recover the lost Silmarils. His father, with others of his brothers behaved shamefully in many respects with regard to forcefully upholding their oath to Feanor, especially with regard to Beren, Luthien and Finrod Felagund, which meant that they were shunned by many of the other Eldar, and thus their oaths to Feanor, ensured the curse of Mandos was upheld:
“Tears unnumbered ye shall shed; and the Valar will fence Valinor against you, and shut you out, so that not even the echo of your lamentation shall pass over the mountains. On the House of Fëanor the wrath of the Valar lieth from the West unto the uttermost East, and upon all that will follow them it shall be laid also. Their Oath shall drive them, and yet betray them, and ever snatch away the very treasures that they have sworn to pursue. To evil end shall all things turn that they begin well; and by treason of kin unto kin, and the fear of treason, shall this come to pass. The Dispossessed shall they be for ever”
