Given the christmas season and upcoming holidays, this will be my last column for the year. I’ll aim to return to posting in approximately mid-January. I was going to use this post as an opportunity to link some of my past posts for people who might be new to the column, and also solicit some feedback. I hope you’ll also forgive me a little indulgence too, I thought I’d go back through my screenshots and give a bit of a slideshow of my lore-master over the past year or so.

A while back, in fact quite a long while back as it was before update 2, I wrote a guide to lore-master LI legacies on the official forum. While the info in there still stacks up fairly well, with Isengard and various patches, there’s been enough changes to the LI system and to class mechanics that I think it’s worth putting together an updated guide to lore-master legacies. And while I’m here, I’ll also cover some of the basic information on when and why to upgrade your LIs, because there’s been some confusion about this on the forums recently.

This is the second part of a two-part column giving a broad overview of the different trait setups for the lore-master and the different roles it can fulfil in a group. The first part of the column can be found here.

Sparked by the discussion on the weekly poll regarding tanking as a form of “crowd control” as well as by a nudge from Merric and Goldenstar, I’ve decided to cover, in painstaking detail, all the forms of what I will now call “Controlling the crowd” (“CtC”) rather than “Crowd Control” to more readily allow tanking as an acceptable methodology. In covering all the various options for controlling the crowd I will also let you know the type of situations that you would likely use that methodology, what restrictions it has as well as the benefits and drawbacks to using it.

Hello again!
After this long hiatus, I thought it would be better (also after watching the poll votes, thank you for voting) if I would pick up where I left off. I will continue with skills until level 20 and probably then I will start on traits and trait-lines.
So, here we are at level 18. We have one important skill (believe me, you will use it often) and a situational skill, but important nonetheless.

This past week I was listening to the latest Dunedain podcast that features one of our favorite wardens, DocHoliday. During his interview Doc said:

The “Alternative Methods” guide set is aimed at presenting different ways to fill the basic roles/needs in any group or instance without use of either the normal class/roll or method. My goals with these set of suggestive guides are to break people of the “You have to have classes A, B, C, D and 2 others” mentality as well as offer suggestions of how to use skills and mechanics more aggressively in the logic of the best defense is a killer offense.
The classes in this game are far more flexible than some realize and there are a lot more possible class combinations that can work through content just fine. Break this mind set and you may find new fun and challenges in your everyday LotRO gaming.

Congratulations on reaching level 10! Lore-masters get again 2 new skills:
Blinding Flash: If the Lore-master could be described in one skill, Blinding Flash would be it. This skill will stop an enemy in its tracks, putting it to sleep for 30 seconds. This skill will daze or mezz a oponent for the duration of the effect as long as it does not suffer any kind of damage. The skill has a 15 second cooldown, meaning that you can refresh the daze on the enemy and keep him dazed for as long as you like. Creatures of nature (like trees and roots) and the Dead are immune to this effect.
TIP: If you are in a group and the leader asks you to Mezz something, then the leader is asking you to use blinding flash on an enemy to put it to sleep. Can also mean dazed. Mezzing would be the act of using Blinding Flash on an enemy.
