Merric and I worked on getting as close to 65 as we could as we wanted to be doing something special for our final level. We had a little more than one experience bubble left when we met up with Azz Eldahnya, Arataurn and Guthrall from our kin.
We started out trying Survival – Barrow-downs. We wanted to challenge ourselves to survive long enough for us to hit level 65. We did make it to the 10 minute mark but only barely and there wasn’t enough experience gained to get us to level 65.

A Welcome Back Weekend (not a full week this time) starts Thursday, December 17th and runs until Monday, December 21st.

Welcome back weekend is to allow players with inactive accounts to come back and play their old characters for free! They are even offering the special pricing of $9.99 / month if they decide to resubscribe. The event will allow these old players to play around with Mirkwood content which is pretty cool if you ask me.

Yesterday I purposely left my laptop on and bugged Merric to remote in and start me loading the patch during lunch. I was prepared and ready. Baby Hobbit would be asleep by 9 p.m. and I would get an hour or two to dive into the new expansion.
Despite my best laid plans, Baby Hobbit did not see fit to allow any free time last night so I did not get to experience any of Siege of Mirkwood last night. Nothing’s wrong with her just one of her “sleep is for the weak” nights where she woke up every hour.

In preparation for Siege of Mirkwood, LOTRO-Europe is activating a 10% experience bonus starting today until the launch of the expansion on December 3rd. A great opportunity for those closing in on 60 to get a bit closer before the level cap raises to 65!
For those of you in the US, we’ve been with the 10% exp bonus for quite some time. Since the previous Welcome Back week back in October, in fact. Patience reminded me that experience bonus was set to 10% after that welcome back week completed but we’re back up to 25% bonus with the current Welcome Back week!

Another Welcome Back Week is upon us! This is an event where Turbine invites people who had stopped playing LOTRO to come back and give it another try for free! It’s also a great time to invite people to the multi-month payment plan that will allow them to get the Siege of Mirkwood expansion free.
The bonus to those of use already playing is that this week we all will get 25% experience bonus! This is on top of rested experience bonus even! This is a great time for folks like Merric and I to close that gap to 60 before Mirkwood launches.

I would guess that most have assisted others they aren’t in a fellowship with before. Assistance can be given in helping kill a monster or in buffing or healing a character engaged in combat. For instance, if I heal someone who’s in combat with a enemy, I will placed in combat as well even if not in a fellowship or not attacking the monster at all.
A lot of the time this assistance is appreciated. I personally can think of the time I clicked on a glowy item simply because I couldn’t resist and spawned a signature monster when I was unprepared for combat. I would have certainly perished if it hadn’t been for the helpful burglar who had popped out of no where and made quick work of that monster for me.
There is a downside to this assistance and it affects the amount of experience the person being helped will receive. This assistance experience penalty happens when any assistance is given. Any amount of damage given to the monster, a debuff applied to the monster or buffs and healing applied to the fighter all will enact this penalty.

LOTRO is having a new “Welcome Back” week that allows cancelled subscribers to come back and play their LOTRO characters for free for a week. The plan is to show them how awesome LOTRO is and get them hooked up into a multi-month plan to get the free expansion.
Returning players get a 25% experience bonus to help them boost along. This bonus is in addition to rested XP bonus.
