Orion’s starting to open up a bit more as he gives us some pretty hard details about what’s coming for the Warden class with Update 6. While these are posted on his my.LOTRO blog, they’re still subject to change based on feedback. Also, keep in mind this post is titled “Blog #1” so there will be more coming.
First up, he describes how Battle Preparations will work which sounds pretty slick. Essentially, using the skill will turn builders and masteries no longer require a target and as such can be used outside of combat. This will allow you to build and store a gambit pre-fight for up to 30 seconds. I’m a little curious to see if there will be a cool-down for this skill.

Last night, Orion posted a few teasers on what he has up his sleeve for the upcoming Warden changes planned (hopefully) for Update 6.
Orion didn’t give too many details, but laid out some ideas that sound interesting but I will admit it doesn’t sound like the class is getting any simpler. Keep in mind though that these ideas are still subject to change, but here’s what he’s thinking so far.

Interesting post today from Orion, and I’ll first mention something that applies to everyone – with Update 5 there’s a new stat Tactical Mastery which is a combination of Tactical Offence and Outgoing healing. Interesting reveal here, but it makes sense that he had to explain it when talking about things for the Warden. I like this move as it helps classes like Wardens and Captains since they do tactical damage and have healing abilities. I wonder if there are other system tweaks coming?

Orion posted some thoughts today on the new idea for the Warden skill Never Surrender:
- It will still be a skill, with 5 minute duration, and will return 50% morale and power if Warden falls below 10%. No debuff, but it will be on a 15 minute cooldown.
- It will only fire once
I’m a bit torn on this one, the previous version was a much bigger heal and on a quicker cooldown. It was already in work to reduce the debuff to 2 minutes, which while it does make it a bit harder to function it seemed like a pretty even trade for the power of the skill. I do think this still will help out as Wardens dying when tanking is a huge problem, so this gives us a nice “oh-poop” button.

Orion not only popped onto the forums, but he’s also discussing what he’s been able to get in for the class coming with Update 5.
- HoTs will be significantly boosted to compensate for the incoming damage scaling
- Changes to some skills to enable them to contribute to partial mitigations
- He’s considering moving tactical contributions from Will to Might, but that’s not definite.
- All bugs listed in that thread will also be addressed.
Good stuff for sure, I wish they’d look at leaches too but I guess beggars can’t be choosers. The changes for mitigations could be huge, depending on how they play out. I’m just hoping this doesn’t get added to Shield Mastery but are spread out somehow or tied to a stance.

Today was a nice surprise when I saw Orion make a number of posts to try and summarize the feedback and issues with the class. He did a great job of summarizing and clarifying the issues, and although there are things he’s not in control of, he did promise to discuss with the folks who are. Currently the following things are currently not working properly for Wardens:
- Never Surrender debuff should be 2 minutes
- Never Surrender is know to have issues with DoTs
- Never Surrender uses the Captain’s Last Stand Icon
- Aggression tooltip states a percentage of threat when in fact it is a flat rate
- Using Aggression and Potency shows the Conviction tooltip
- Shield Tactics adds to Defense and not Mitigation
- Shield Tactics applies immunity at the end of the animation
- Way of the Warden doesn’t give Critical Defense
- Deflection places a threat up and not a thread down icon
- Double gambit builders use the single gambit animation

I posted earlier on the updates to the Potency system described by Orion, and I admit I was a little frustrated by the lack of changes to address some of our issues. Almost as if Orion had read my mind, a couple of his posts add a few more details.
In response to the question about “Battle Memory,” it will carry through until you use it even if you drop out of combat. This actually could be huge as it would allow you to queue up a big threat grabber (Exultation of Battle) or a defensive gambit like Shield Mastery to start off the fight without going through all your masteries. While this seems small, I think it could turn out to be quite a nice bonus for us.
But perhaps the best of all was this quick little nugget about the number of gambits Wardens have and that this will grow by likely 3. The increase is to add in new gambits to allow for:

I realize this is a little late, but wanted to get my thoughts on these changes out there.
After the previous post on the planned changes for the Wardens, quite a bit of feedback prompted Orion to further tweak the concept of Potency. He described it pretty well in his blog post, but here’s my take on it.
Some of the pieces aren’t changing, you’ll still need to use either Deft Strike, Defensive Strike, or Goad to trigger the potency state and the trait bonuses are the same such that if you go deep enough (4 traits) in a line you’ll have 100% chance to trigger potency. But that’s where the similarities end.
