So you want to be a millionaire huh? A friend of mine once told me that if you want to become a millionaire you need to do one or more of the following:

  • Do something better than someone else.
  • Do something no one else does.
  • Do something no one else wants to do.

vaultThis simple philosophy can be very risky in a real world application, but in LOTRO can be a very powerful idea that can earn you lot’s of gold and silver. I can see several of you asking, “But Azz, what good is in-game gold anyway?” I do see your point. With the latest strategy from Turbine to “gate” new goodies behind barter items and reputation, I can see that the inherent value of in game currency has been diminished somewhat. However, there are still many uses for our precious hordes of gold.

  • Repairs
  • Older reputation items/mounts
  • Vault Space
  • Housing
  • Auction House Purchases

We received a very well written email from Decimma of Gladden explaining his way of making money on the Auction House in LOTRO. I thought it such a good email, I asked if I could post it on our site to share with everyone. Thank you for sharing, Decimma!

Dear Casual Stroll,

I wanted to write in to add to a former interviewee’s suggestions regarding playing the Auction House (AH) and keeping yourself in the “black ink” in Middle Earth.

My main, Decimma (65 RK) is an explorer by trade, and that toon is now up to 137 gold and growing.  I’m not writing in to brag and I realize that there are players out there with much more coin than I, but I’d like to offer up a few strategies that others may find helpful. In fact, if I were really trying to make coin, I am confident I could have double or even triple my current coin as I have been playing for nearly a year and a half now, and I find making virtual coin more of an occasional hobby than an obsession.

I recently spent large sums of gold equipping alts with top notch gear that they subsequently "grew out of" rather quickly. I also sank cash into other fruitless activities and made substantial donations to "needy" fellow players. The net result was that I was down to 33 gold. Now I don't know about you, but I consider this a small amount. I like an adequate supply of funds as I don't craft and therefore have to buy, food, potions, tokens etc. Having the safety net of sound finances also allows me to help others and indulge myself with auctions.

So I decided to clear out my vault (a task frequently deferred) and sell off any stockpiled assets. Among the assort vendor trash was a stash of "Mithril Flakes" and "Mallorn Logs". So I placed the respective goods on "Auction Hall" and subsequently made about 5 gold. I then embarked on a program of resource gathering, for several hours each day. As an explorer I farm, hide, logs and ore. I find it sells quicker to leave them "unprocessed". The subsequent sales during the week did much to increase my wealth.

Simple Steps

Our kinmates often ask us how Hobbit became so rich?  (Especially after he bought everyone a new, deluxe kinhouse in the best location in all of Eriador).

To become filthy rich, or at least socially secure, in LOTRO is rather straight-forward, if pedestrian.  There are lots of methods, but simple, guaranteed ones are this:
