I’ve updated my guide about cosmetics and outfitting, and split it up into different subsections.
The “How to …” guide will now explain various aspects of outfitting in written text, and uses a drop down menu from the main blog bar.
It’s just a small update, but I think it makes things a little clearer and easier to find.

A Warden’s Guide, Part 2: Mastering Masteries

As your warden starts getting into the higher levels and you finally start to get a feel for how to build your gambits, it all gets shaken up once you earn your “Masteries” (Master of the Spear, Master of the Shield and Master of the Fist).

The Mastery traits give you access to gambit builders that apply two icons (spear, shield, fist) for the price of one. These skills will allow you to build gambits much faster once you learn to use them and get comfortable with them. In a lot of ways, learning to use your masteries is like learning every gambit all over again.

A Comprehensive Guide to Playing /Music

One of the most enjoyable and certainly most unique features of LOTRO is the Player Music System. It allows players to produce music in game through both manual, free-form play as well as pre-made abc music files.

The game has nine separate instruments that players can use to make music. They are Lute, Harp, Horn, Drum, Clarinet, Flute, Theorbo, Bagpipe, and Cowbell. All players are automatically granted the use of two instruments at character creation starting with release 3.2; one of which is the Lute and the other is either Clarinet or Horn depending on your class. The Minstrel class over the course of the first 25 levels will learn all of the instruments and then at higher levels will learn abilities that allow them to teach fellow players the other instruments. Some of these Mentor skills are learned from a trainer and some are learned from world drops or reputation rewards.

Best Party Locations of Middle-Earth

Apart from the kind of event you want to plan, choosing your location is by far the most delicate decision you’ll make about your party. Here are some ideas and suggestions from our team of party planners!

First thing you’ll want to consider will be traffic. Do you want your event to be public? In a area with a lot of traffic, you’ll run the risk of having more guests then those originally invited. But this can go both ways: some people will ruin your event on purpose, just for the fun of it. Is that a risk you are willing to take?

Second thing you might want to be careful about is the level of the people attending the event.  Most of the suggestions below are good for low level characters or can easily be accessed with the help of a hunter. If you are having your event in a remote location, don’t forget to include coordinates in the invitation!

To continue the Middle-Earth Costumes series, I thought I’d share with you a tutorial on how to make your own elven ears. They are very easy to make, and are a great addition to any costume! Overall, the material for countless pairs of ears will cost you about the same price than buying some in a professional costume shop. You should find everything you need to make these in an art supply store.

Before you can begin crafting anything, you must first open the Crafting Panel. This can be done in several ways: pressing “T” on your keyboard, right clicking on a crafting station such as a forge or workbench, or by clicking the anvil-shaped crafting icon in the User Interface tray at the bottom of your screen.

Of course, what you see on your crafting panel is directly related to which vocation you have chosen. However, beyond specific professions and recipes available to you, each vocation’s crafting panel is the same. What you make will be different, but how you make it will be determined in the same ways.

It seems there’s still a bit of confusion out there on how to install plugins.  Sometimes a video cannot be substituted for the written word, so I thought it would be good to go ahead and write up some written instructions to accompany my previous video.

Turbine Libraries

Windows 7 Folder StructureThe first thing you need are the base libraries from Turbine.  Many plugins use these libraries to call up functions so they must be installed.  Go ahead and download the file and then extract it using 7zip, Winrar, or another zip program.  You will then extract them to the following locations:

Crafting 101: Gathering Materials

Now that you’ve chosen a crafting vocation, it’s time to get to work! Of course, before you can start making weapons and armour and jewelry and food, you’re going to need some basic materials. The first of these are your tools. When you first speak to the Crafting Trainer (the Master or Mistress of Apprentices), they will give you some tools to get you started in your new crafts. These tools are not the best, but they’re enough to get you started. To begin gathering the resources you will need, you will first need to equip one of your new tools. You can do this by either right clicking on the tool in your inventory, or by dropping it in the tool slot on your character panel (hit “C” to open the character panel). Note: it can be helpful to place your tools on your quickslot bars for ease of switching between them as needed. It is also a good idea to upgrade from your starter tools as soon as possible because these inferior tools are brittle and break easily, thus requiring you to spend more time and money repairing them. Most vendors in the crafting work areas will have cheap tools available.

Now that you have the proper tools, you can begin your search for the materials you’ll need in order to craft.
