imageI love maps. Only slightly less than my love of maps, is my love of charts. I spent many hours poring over the genealogies at the back of the Silmarillion over the years. I began reading the Silmarillion again when I got into LOTRO, and have read it a few more times since. Even though I have become a min-maxing raider who spends a lot of time analyzing the game to maximize my effectiveness, it was the Lore which brought me to this game. And I still love that Lore.

One thing that always bugged me about the genealogies was that they were split up into 5 or 6 charts. They were split up by families, or races, etc. I wanted to see it all together in one chart so I could trace genealogies through the whole thing. I assumed there would be one on the internet, so I began searching. I found many good resources, but never exactly what I wanted, and never all in one chart.

There are an amazing amount of flowers and plants in Middle Earth, all of them breathtaking. From the seemingly simple sway of flowers in a breeze to the majesty of the Old Forest trees. Here are just a few scenes I’ve stumbled across in Michigan that remind me of Middle-Earth.

I’ve long been a fan of older architecture and creations.  I love wrought iron, I love brick walls, I love wooden carvings, and I love anything that depicts these wonders. This is just another reason why I love LOTRO.

The first time I saw Archet and Bree I was amazed. To me it was (and still is) a virtual creation of all the wonders of the renaissance festival I attended every year growing up.

So I thought I’d take a moment to highlight some of these amazing (and sometimes dark) creations by Middle-Earth inhabitants.  This is the first  of several architecture comparisons I will be doing, though it may take a bit of time to collect enough photos to truly capture the essence of Middle-Earth and beyond.  So please have patience with me between architecture posts!

I’ve recently been sneaking my way through Trollshaws on my burglar.  Part way through I realized that there are all sorts of creatures here, and they range from serene to scary.  Here are just a few that I have encountered on my way to Rivendell.

There are many ways to celebrate the wonderful summer weather we are having.  Of course there are the engaging, fun-filled activities of the Summer Festival, but when you need a break from horse races and running errands, there are plenty of options available.

Many choose to celebrate through fishing….

Welcome!  This is the first in a series of posts highlighting the beauty of Middle Earth this little hobbit sees every day in Michigan.  I’m extremely pleased and excited that the team at A Casual Stroll to Mordor has given me this opportunity to share my photo album with you.

With the Summer Celebration in full swing there are a lot of new festivities to take part in.  One of the classics for any celebration in the summer are fireworks.  And lots of them.  That, combined with both Canada and America’s recent Independence Day celebrations make fireworks photos a must!

Another quick aside…

I mentioned on twitter recently(ish) that I’d picked up a cool book in our library sale that followed Frodo’s journeys through Middle Earth*. And I promised I’d provide a couple of scans. Well, after a little searching through our strange Tolkein collection, I found it. And as I want to post them on twitter, a couple of scans I took this morning:
