There are reports on the forums that the moria class quests have been changed to no longer require you to complete the full fellowship quest at the end of it to get the trait attached to the quest line. Apparently all of the quests to kill the special mobs inside various moria instance remain, but the traits they used to reward have been added to the previous quest in the quest chain, so that you no longer to go into Forges, Skumfil etc. to get the relevant trait. The trait is rewarded retrospectively if you had already finished the second to last quest.
This change makes a good deal of sense from the point of view that these instances are no longer end game content and so it’s much harder to get a group for them nowdays, but it’s strange that this appears to be another fairly large change in game mechanics for which we have absolutely no official statement or patch notes about. Turbine sprung the “bound to account” change with Medallions of the North Men in update 3 and moria/loth/dul gudur medallions in RoI without any official announcement, it seems another fairly large change which will be relevant to a lot of players has managed to slip through the patch notes.

One of the less talked about changes with Update 5 comes in the form of some tweaks to the Reputation system, and mainly in the way the turn-ins are handled. Like the previous Instance Finder diary, this does function more as a Q&A but a little more beef in it.
Essentially all the various items that previously you had to turn in to some guy somewhere, they’re now consumable! So you just use the item from your inventory and poof you have more reputation!

It’s been a while since I’ve spent some time in Moria; I mean really spent some time in there. However, recently with the Fellowship walk and my wife putting a hold on her Minstrel until it had completed, I decided that I would pull out my Champion and run through a bit of Moria and really put the Rise of Isengard changes to test (at least as far as the Fury and Ardour lines go). And I have to say I was a bit surprised at what I discovered on my journey.
First off, let me say that in my alt experiment one thing that I should have done, as suggested by a fan, was to stagger out the levels of the characters so that they were all at different level ranges.
However, I tend to be a fairly linear thinker so I decided to take them all through the same zones at the same time. And for a while it worked well. In fact, I really loved the Lone-lands so much that I enjoyed my time going through that area on all my characters one after the other. But I didn’t really think about my time going through the areas that I didn’t like so much the first time through, especially Moria. That’s not to say that Moria is a bad place to go through; in fact it’s one of the more epic areas in the game and everyone should experience it at least once. Still, I think most people would admit that it has some shortcomings like being hard to navigate at times; in later levels it really sends you running all over the place; and after too much time underground the dark atmosphere can get to you. And once I started hitting level 50 on my characters the thought of running 8 characters through Moria back-to-back (my Guardian has already gone through a while ago) worried me . I mean seriously, how did I not think about this at the start?

Welcome to LOTRO Epic A Day, where I guide you on an epic journey through Middle-Earth, one day at a time. Each Book of the Epic quest is separated into its own Day, with Side-Days for leveling up to the next book. Gather up your belongings and hit the road, a new Day awaits!
Entering Moria, we pass through Hollin Gate and emerge in the Great Delving. This region features the Durin’s Threshold entrance area and Dolvien-view (a quest hub that serves as a central location until reaching the 21st Hall) and exits into both deeper and higher parts of the mine. There are also plenty of enemies to fight here; gredbyg bugs and deep-claws roam the region and goblins have set up several camps. We’ll encounter corruptions for the first time, buffs that can be removed with different skills for each class, and new rewards for defeating enemies: ixp runes to add experience to your Legendary Items, Rusted Dwarf Tools to trade in for new LIs, and even the occasional raw, un-identified LI found obtained from humanoid enemies (like the goblins). Before entering Moria and the Great Delving, I highly recommend gaining Kindred rank with Thorin’s Hall and purchasing a goat; horses can’t be used in Moria and the distances are rather long to be traveled on foot.

I just wanted to make sure that all our readers were aware of the big expansion discounts coming to the LOTRO Store this week. If you do not own Moria or Mirkwood, this is a chance to get both of them for 50% off.
These are excellent specials and if you’re nearing any of these areas level-wise, I would advise you buy them now while they’re half the cost!
Low on Turbine Points? Don’t forget that there also is a double points bundle promotion also going n right now.

I’ve been pretty quiet of late both here and over on Stratics and it mainly is due to real life just getting much busier and the holidays taking up more of my time. This month or so is usually about the most chaotic time for me normally so I don’t usually have all that much free time. So, I’d rather be playing games as opposed to writing about things I don’t have time to play
I do have some posts in the works to cover the task system, leveling thoughts, the store, and of course the upcoming Yule festival. But I did want to get something up as to share what all I’ve been up to.

Finally! The European servers are now down for maintenance and we are getting F2P!
My Warden has now hit 59 which means that he can actually be of some use in the Moria instances. And yesterday I did my first “real” tanking with my Warden. We did a GS HM run and i got to tank Igash (while our guardian took care of the Devoted and his archers). I must say that i enjoyed it quite a bit!
I’ve studied tanking with a Warden a lot by reading on the web, mostly other blogs. Because of this I knew pretty much what to expect. I expected some trouble getting initial aggro, but that holding aggro once i got it would be no problem. Both these things were true.

Ok, bear with me as these are quite big. I was expecting a number of things but this is pretty big. So I’m going to start with the big items and my initial thoughts in this post, and then when I have a chance to go through them all I’ll post more thoughts.
First up, this is a gameplay patch with no new content, however there is a lot in here that really hits many important areas. I’m perfectly fine with this as long as the next content update comes quickly after the new year.
I highly suggest checking out the full patch notes here, but here’s my quick take on them.
