J.R.R. Tolkien’s birthday is on January 3rd and it has been a tradition for Tolkien fans to raise a glass and toast him.
To celebrate, fans of the professor raise their glass and toast him on his birthday at 9pm at your local time. Simply raise your glass of your favorite beverage and say “The Professor”.

Too Long; Didn’t Listen is a podcast hosted by Syp of Bio Break / Massively (you’ve heard him on CSTM a couple times) and our very own Merric, although he’s going by his real name Dodge (yes, that is his actual name). This podcast is being brought to you by the MMO Reporter Network!
TLDL is a short 30 minute podcast dedicated to discussions on two hot topics in the gaming world.

Very fitting with the launch of Rise of Isengard is this new LEGO model of Orthanc by a group of builders called OneLug. They modeled Isengard after the movies by Peter Jackson.
This tower is MASSIVE and extremely detailed. Their Flickr set contains the specs for the building:
The base of the model is 305 Lego studs(8ft.) in diameter and the tower Orthanc stands 228 Lego Bricks (7ft. 2in.) tall. The battle consist of 23 Ents and 100+ Orcs.

There is a wonderful article on Tolkien Library about Benjamin Harff, a German student at the Academy of Arts, who reproduced an absolutely stunning version of the Silmarillion for his exam.
This work is beautiful, detailed and nothing but wonderful. Only one copy in existance and no plans to publish or make it available, it truly is unique version of the Silmarillion.

Before we go any further, there is some set up required for this Outside LOTRO piece. Some of you may already be familiar with this LOTR animated gif. It is several years old but I have to include it just in case you haven’t seen it!
Watch it all the way through to the “Fin”. Go ahead. I’ll wait.

Done? Ok good on with the Outside LOTRO!

Typically we here at CSTM stay far far away from politics and generally other things from real life that seem to strive to destroy fun in the real world we sometimes are forced to live in.
However, this clip from the Colbert Report attempting to explaining the debt crisis with Lord of the Rings characters is simply too good to pass up. Enjoy!

Mashable is reporting that World of WarCraft is now going to have a free to play option, that is until you reach level 20 (sound familiar?). They are titling it “World of Warcraft Starter Edition” and it allows players to play until their characters reach level 20, then they will have to subscribe to the “full version” of the game if they wish to keep gaining experience; which can be done through an online account page. There are some restrictions on Starter Edition Accounts, of course:
- A level cap of 20.
- A maximum of 10 gold.
- Trade skills are capped at 100 ranks.
- Unable to trade via the Auction House, mailbox, or player-to-player.
- In-game access to public chat channels unavailable. Players are limited to communicating using only say, party, or whisper.
- Characters will be unable to create or join guilds.
- Characters are not able to send whispers to other characters unless they have been added to the characters’ friends lists or have received a whisper from a character first.
- Characters will not be able to invite other players into a party.
- Characters will not be able to join parties with other characters above level 20.
- Voice chat disabled on Starter Edition accounts.
- Realms experiencing login queues will prioritize players who have full, paid accounts.
- Starter Edition accounts are not eligible for character transfers
- RealID features are disabled on all Starter Edition Accounts.
