In a post on the forums by Fredelas, it seems we may have found the elusive blue festival clothing on Bullroarer in the latest patch. I know at least Kiarane, Ketani and I were frantically searching for this costume and it’s great to think it is coming with Monday’s patch. This blue outfit was displayed in the official Yule Festival screenshots and we couldn’t figure out how we earned it!

You might wonder why this blog is called “Tales From The Great Barrow”.
First of all, it’s obviously stolen from Tales from the Crypt, and the Great Barrows is kind of a crypt. But more importantly the Great Barrows was where i fully realized what LOTRO is all about. GB is the first time in the game where you really need a fellowship, before that I did everything solo, trying to level up as fast as possible. But playing in a fellowship for the first time made me realize that is what makes this game so awesome. It was a PUG, but it didn’t really matter, it really changed everything. I had been in fellowships before GB, but that was just to help someone, or get some help myself. This was the first time in a fellowship where you needed real teamwork.
I still do most my playing solo. But it’s the times when you’re in a fellowship or raid that you’ll remember. You don’t remember killing hundreds of animals to get a deed, or running around the map like crazy for a exploration deed. I can’t even remember most of the epic quest line. What i do remember is things like GB, Grand Stairs, Sword Halls and taking down that enormous, ugly turtle!

There are plenty of dropped items you can find along the leveling path but there seems to be one I almost always do in the Trollshaws that is typically a nice upgrade dagger and as a level 34 quest you can get it at level 29.
I am talking about the Boar-Tooth Dagger and while I’m certain there may be better dagger options available, this quest is fairly easy and straight forward to complete for a very nice dagger.
What you are looking for a random drop of Perfect Boar-tusk which I believe can drop from any boar in the Trollshaws but I always pick on the Elder Stonehoof in the far west of the zone as they are only level 33-34 and easiest to kill. Since it is a random drop it may take a while for Perfect Boar-tusk to appear if particularly unlucky.

So, the other night Goldenstar and I are waiting to do the dreaded escort quest and we happen to see a number of people in this area of the Lone-lands running around killing goblins. Sure enough as we actually get close to the NPC to turn in the pendant and start the quest a hobbit runs up and starts the quest. He and several others follow him and off they go. No sweat, they were there first I don’t mind that they took him, just that I’m going to be sitting there for 10 minutes or so waiting for him to re-spawn; but that’s not their fault. That’s just how long it takes.
Now interestingly enough as we’re waiting there a hunter from the previous group runs back to us and starts standing around. “Interesting,” I think to myself and I start to get a little agitated. A minute or so goes by and another hunter shows up. Then another. I call out to Goldenstar in the other room and I tell her that she should just turn in the quest (I was able to turn mine in before the Hobbit got there) and start it off. But then I start thinking. Is this really what I want to do? Do I really want to be that kind of guy?

Spring has arrived and 2010 has some new events in store for the Spring Festival. This guide is here to help you discover all the fun to be had and help you earn those seasonal goodies!
The main bartering item for this event are called Spring Leaf. The quests to earn these tokens are repeatable so you can in fact earn enough tokens to get all the goodies the festival offers (granted you have enough time).
There is a deed called “Spring is Dandy” for most of these quests and completing them all will grant you the title of “Spring Dandy”.

When you’re in a kinship you can sometimes find it difficult to get done the things you would like to do because you spend a lot of your time helping others. This can get frustrating for anyone but I think it becomes especially frustrating for the casual player who’s time is quite limited.
I’m not complaining. For the most part I do what I would like with my game time and if I decide to help someone, it’s because I choose to, not because I feel compelled or even forced to. This has come about after years of being the helpful person always stuck finishing other people’s goals. It starts to wear you down after a while. Helping others finish their goals while you look at what you need to complete gathering dust starts to feel more like a chore than the cheery helper you started out as.
I like to help. Helping others feels good and you get to hang out with friends and sometimes meet new people. Nothing wrong with helping and I think that you should do it whenever you can. But when helping others interferes with your personal goals, what do you do? Where do you draw the line?

Last night I was chatting with my kinmate, Dyranor, who was hard at work slaughtering crawlers for a deed. He mentioned that he was basically a completionist when it came to deeds but the extra quest slots were nice too.
Huh? What extra quest slots?
This was something I honestly hadn’t noticed but he was right. Upon closer inspection, I realized that all of my characters had a different number of active quests allowed in their quest log.
