It wasn’t too long ago that Volume 3.1 (or Volume III Book 1) came out and surprise, surprise; I’ve already finished the Epic Storyline part. I’m sure it comes as no surprise to most of the others who have already completed this Book just how quickly I was able to complete this; especially if you took the rewards that allow you to travel quickly to the next Ranger (the only ones I took were to Forochel and Angmar). If you haven’t done it, don’t worry about this being a “hate” rant, at least it’s not meant to be. I think most of all it was just a surprise. I’ll do my best not ruin anything with spoilers.
My main surprise at this comes in just how easy it was to complete. I guess maybe I’ve just forgotten how it was when I was on the other first books of the Volumes, or that I’m used to something that seems a bit harder and maybe a bit more visually “epic”. However, it’s only in retrospect that I realize the “epic” quality of this quest is not in the visuals, but in the lore. You talk with several “high profile” characters in the Lord of the Rings novels, you re-visit most of the Rangers that you meet throughout Volume 1, and you also run into several other surprises along the way. However, if you have not finished Book 1 or at least gone through the majority of the Angmar books, you might be a little bit lost. I strongly suggest that you do those before heading into this.

This week’s CStM we talk about alts mostly. Goldenstar hasn’t played her minstrel much and has been mostly doing skirmishes with her Burglar. Goldenstar has also realized the awesome that is the runekeeper and plans to keep leveling this alt.
Merric tried using Overpower on his guardian in skirmishes and started using Legendary Weapons again. He realized he can actually kill things!

It’s no secret I’ve been a bit of a slacker blogwise over the last 10 days or so. This may directly relate to Siege of Mirkwood hitting the EU servers on 3rd Dec. And what a ride it’s been, between learning the new area, tackling skirmishes, levelling again and bemoaning our lot with the Legendary Items lottery.
I thought I should do like my kinmate Berathe, and make a few observations and thoughts about Mirkwood and the development of LotRO.

Merric and I have been working with Brynulf to try and complete Volume One. Merric and I were stuck on the last part of book 7 and our friends Kymli and Smashey helped us finish that part. We started on Book 8 with Brynor. We were able do make it through chapter 5 with just the three of us (Brynulf is level 60 which helps a lot).![]()
Azz was nice enough last night to assist us with Chapter 5 last night. We first tried it with just the two of us but all the dread prevented me from healing which of course was very bad for all of us. With Azz’s assistance we were able to get through it. After finishing Book 8 all three us received the title “A Light from the Shadow” which is pretty stinking cool.

Last night Merric and I were treated by Azz of Wizzard of Azz to completing two of the small fellowship dungeons in Eregion that we had several quests for. Azz’s assistance made everything quick and everything go super smoothly. I only killed Merric once and it wasn’t on purpose!
The Library at Tham Mírdain and School at Tham Mírdain are two 3-man instances located in the south west corner of Eregion. Now Merric and I had attempted to do the school dungeon ourselves a couple weeks ago. I wouldn’t say we were successful as we couldn’t defeat the first boss but we were able to do well in clearing out the trash on our own with some success. It was very slow going so Azz’s assistance was very much appreciated.

| This guide is to assist with the general quests that appear with each festival in LOTRO. These quests are not really tied with a particular festival and are there just as little extras to pick up goodies for your character.
See the links to the right to find the guide about the quests available during a specific festival. Note that this list will be expanded as more guides are created. |

A Leveling Conundrum!

So here I am, a newly returned player (although I may not be able to use the “newly” title for much longer) and a newly addicted craft/alt-aholic. And I find myself leveling at what seems to me to be an astonishing rate. Now this isn’t because I have a lot of time on my hands, because I don’t. However, when I do get an hour to myself, if I haven’t leveled at least once one on an alt or made a substantial amount of XP with Meredoc, then I am simply not trying. I must be doing something related to crafting, because when you quest you can really zoom right along in your leveling below level; at least you can in my level range. I’m sure the grind will come soon enough past level 51!
But is this a good thing? I’m not sure. See, there are downsides to this decrease in required XP. Back when LOTRO started, you spent a lot of time doing lower level quests. Sure, some of them were a pain and caused you to run around, but you got a distinct feel of the land and its inhabitants. Maybe the pie running quests were lame, or convincing the three elf brothers seemed tedious, but what did you care? It’s not like you were moving ahead all that quickly and completing the quests really helped get some XP. These days though, you can skip most of the tedious quests that you want. Heck, you can skip the entire Old Forest if you want. There are so many quests around that you can pick and choose at your leisure. I know I really didn’t want to do the quest line to get the bee salve in The Shire, which is probably the only quest line I truly dislike there (pie and mail quests included). So I didn’t do it. Still, I was able to level so quickly that my Epic Quest line final goal quickly became green in its level status. And this isn’t just on one alt, but on all of them. Heck, by the time I was ready to start the previously mentioned Old Forest zone in the Breelands on my Captain, Hunter, and Burglar, all the quests were green there too.
