With the release of Volume 3.2 we saw a revision of the Vault put forth. Not one to sit on his laurels, Ransroth has released another Dev Diary discussing even more upcoming changes to the vault system. The changes that we can expect to see are as follows:
Instead of a list, the main view is segmented into chests with both a name and header that can be renamed at any time.
- A chest with no items will not be displayed until an item has been put into it.
- The chest dropdown menu has been replaced with a grouping of tabs on the right-hand side.
- Clicking on a tab will filter the view only displaying the items within that chest.
- Items can be dragged and dropped onto a tab to move an item into that particular chest.
The view can be changed to view items either as icons and text or just as icons.
- The Vault and Shared Storage can be resized both horizontally and vertically.
- Right-clicking on an item will (still) allow you to move it to another chest, but it will list the chests via their name.
- You can now open the Vault, Shared Storage, and Wardrobe that will allow you to open the other panels instead of having to speak to the Vault Keeper once again.
- “There is now a new kind of sort: the “Auto” sort. This sort automatically groups similar kinds of items together, and sorts them within the groups in a smarter way than alphabetically. For example, IXP Runes will automatically be arranged by kind (level 60 first, then level 65), and then by the amount of IXP that the rune will award. Legendary Weapons and Items are sorted by the player’s class, then rarity, then minimum level to equip, then item class. Crafting ingredients are sorted by profession, then tier. Anything that doesn’t fall into one of the special categories will be sorted by rarity and item class.”
- T
he view can be filtered by chest, by name, and by type.
- There is now a “Show All” button to clear the filter as well as keyboard shortcut that can be created to clear the filter. (No key is mapped to this entry by default.)
- You can now hold the Shift key to split items dialogue while moving them from various windows.
- Double-clicking on a stackable item in the Vault will merge it into an existing stack in your inventory.
- “Dragging a stackable item from the Vault over a partial stack in the inventory will fill the stack in the inventory and deposit the rest of the item back to the Vault.”
- The Vault will automatically merge partial stacks of the same kind together. However, you should read what this might mean if you keep stacks of the same item in separate chests.
- The Vault UI is loaded differently to make it much faster.

A Dev Diary written by Ransroth was released today concerning the upcoming changes to the vault system with the upcoming release of Free-to-Play on September 10th. There have been quite a few changes to the system about which people may find themselves conflicted; I know I was, but we’ll get to that later.
First, let’s take a look at some of the changes to the systems and the new features that it will provide for all players:

Yesterday saw a posting from Ransroth concerning an additional feature in the upcoming Mounts 2.0 system that didn’t make it into the recent Developer Diary. The feature is a new key-binding that will become available that will mount a player (who has a mount they are able to ride) onto their “…last successfully-used mount”. This fixes an issue in the upcoming system that would only allow players to dismount if they chose to use the same skill that the player used to call their current mount. The reason that this became an issue, is that in the current mount system you can use any of your mount items (or a shortcut assigned to a mount) to dismount yourself; regardless of the mount that you are riding. This change in the 2.0 system not only resolves this issue, but should also clear up a slot or two on players quickslot bars. Ransroth also states that the team also has some ideas on some possible future features such as picking a “favorite” mount or the ability to have a mount selected at random. I personally use the dismount button to get off the horse, but I very much like the idea of a key-binding as I have plenty of space on my Fang Gamepad for a new binding.
Today we saw a post from Orion titled Problems and Solutions #1 since he speculates that there may in fact be more problems down the line that he wishes to speak about. However, the problem that he is focused on in this writing is the epic storyline requiring others to assist any player that wishes to complete the different chapters in the book; something which I think we can all agree is an issue, especially with Volume 1. Orion stresses that the story is the central part of the game, and although having group content worked so well when it was new to everyone, 2 years down the road it becomes more of a challenge to find a group willing to go through the content that it does to complete the content successfully. Turbine’s solution is the following:
