hunter It’s not often at all that I’m inspired to write a general post spouting off about my opinion on something rather than providing data and information for a question I was asked however, today is one of those days.

Last week, I received a question from a hunter who was frustrated by having trouble getting into groups because the “hunter” slot is always taken up. This hunter mentioned interest in trying to play a crowd control role via the “Trapper of Foes” trait line. Now, I know a hunter in trapper of foes can, absolutely get the job done. Would most group leaders entertain this… no, probably not. Why not? Because not enough people try this and therefore the concept has yet to penetrate the minds of people who’ve closed themselves off from anything that isn’t a “cookie cutter” group.captain

Last week’s poll had some serious discussion in that it didn’t really include classes like loremasters who don’t fit in such clear roles. This week’s poll was suggested by Dreadhed to try to make up for this oversight.

This week’s poll is: Which fellowship support role is most difficult?

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Throughout MMOs player interaction has created stereotypes and euphemisms that transcend gaming and enter into the vocabulary of the general public. As Goldenstar points out in “Newb vs Noob“, players of all sorts come together and often things can get hairy! These groups formed from chat requests and /lff channels can be united under one name…

While reading DocHoliday’s new Warden blog, I started thinking about classes I don’t play and why. I typically stick with ranged/caster classes because I find that I tend to be quite good at them. But can I play melee well? I’m really not sure.

While I’m sure there are some hardcore (or just arrogant) folks out there that can claim to be awesome at every class, I believe the majority of us have a niche. It makes it feel like Turbine made the character for you. You understand its role, and you can execute these roles without problems.

There was a guy Merric and I used to play with who is a super nice person, but made me want to tear my hair out whenever I tried grouping with him. He was just so horrible at it that to bring him along just felt like a wasted fellowship slot. We always did bring him though since he was a good friend and we did like him. He was just really bad player or so we thought. One day he rolled a new character and let me tell you, it was like night and day. He didn’t get his first try but this new class just clicked with him. He was good at it and we went from groaning at having him along to being content and able to count on him. It was wonderful!
