I’ve been really missing the inquisitor class from eq2 (the hunter in lotro is very similar to eq2′s ranger) so I thought I’d pop back in and give her a whirl. I have a baby guild there still, 10 levels away from being able to get a guild hall so I thought I’d try the recommended way to get some quick plat and status – soloing Protector’s Realm with a mercenary (it’s known as moloing
) I didn’t think I’d do particularly well, seeing as she is wearing handcrafted gear and has low AA points but I found a SK merc and thought I’d give it a shot.

Mallendis & Eldaeriel
We ran Fornost (water) recently and I switched from Mallendis to Eldaeriel for the final boss fight. I was kicking myself as I had to wait for a while before I could re-enter as it was still counting Mallendis as being in the zone. When I did zone in, I couldn’t see Mallendis but everyone else could… so Dimzad took a screenshot of my two main characters standing side by side for me

and it’s caught me by surprise! I thought I had another week or so
So tonight I will be finding out how the armour set, fate and power changes will affect my characters, checking out the new armour sets & jewellery (I can’t remember if the T1 Erebor sets were gated by a deed or not… I think they were) and figuring that even with the 1st age symbols being on the skirmish barterer I probably still won’t be able to get one (that’s ok, I’m not a raider).
I have to admit, knowing that the current changes are the start of their big class revamps, I can’t really be bothered to put too much effort into gearing up – it just doesn’t seem worth it when you don’t know what changes are around the corner ( or U11 at least
). Expansions have also been released around September/October and *if* the next expansion is due this year with its hinted at level cap rise – there is even less reason to grind for stuff. Of course, I’ll still upgrade gear as and when I can. I do like the change to the bonuses being at 2 and 4 pieces as it does give more flexibility, I will miss the removal of stats though and I’m not sure why they couldn’t have just been moved too. It’s also traditionally the time of year where we step back from lotro a bit (sunshine yay!) though I don’t want to stop playing completely like I did last year as it would be nice to see the anniversary and spring festivals though if they’re following the yule festival model of daily grind which can be sped up with TP – I’ll be giving it a miss anyway, even if there is a war steed appearance.

I had got quite disheartened at level 4 of my Shaman. I couldn’t do the only available quest and kept dying and she seemed much weaker than other classes I had played at that level. So I went off and grinded her up an extra level to see if that would help. Well, it did and I found, if I was careful, I could slowly get around Rindol’s Storehouse. However, when I looked more closely at my journal I realised that I was in the wrong place for one of the quests and the quests in the Storehouse are intended for a small group. Hmm well there you go, noob lesson #1 read the quest text
I carried on questing through the Shimmerleaf areas, got sent back to Tursh Academy and am now level 9 and about to do the final quests for the newbie area I think.
Although the quests are pretty much the standard MMO kill x, gather y variety, a lot of humour has been injected into the game. I had to rescue some brownies from the rift initiates and as they ran off, they yelled ‘FREEEEEDOM!!’ which was funny and I had a quest to carry a chicken back to a guard (the quest giver hates chickens so all his guard friends think its funny to keep plaguing him with them). It’s also fun killing fantastical and magical mobs. Even though the graphics are a little old now I suppose, the game is still beautiful and I really love the Eastern influences in the design and concepts, it’s quite unusual and refreshing as most western MMOs seem to follow a Western medieval style (in my experience at least).

I’m a little bored in lotro at the moment. When there are kin group nights or our regular team orange nights, it’s still fun but I don’t really have much else to do currently. Well aside from grind legendary shards or catch up on some deeds, so roll on update 10. I’m quite enjoying game hopping at the moment though, I have a couple of characters on the go in Vanguard, I’ve downloaded SW:ToR (Ravanel’s gorgeous screenshots certainly piqued my interest and now it’s free to play, I thought why not) and of course I have my old MMO, EQ2.
So in a fit of nostalgia, I logged back into eq2. I thought I’d try and get some shots of the epic zone Veeshan’s Peak for an upcoming post. It wasn’t a particularly good idea as you can imagine. It’s still green, my AAs were all reset, I wasn’t wearing a full set of gear… It would have been dodgy anyway, I had hired a mercenary and had hoped to be able to clear enough trash to get some screenies of some dragons. It didn’t go very well, I did have some tinkered feign death potions and got a little way in but the cooldown on reuse was 30 mins so I figured it would be too boring.
