One thing I never understood once Turbine came out with the LOTRO store was why I couldn’t pay for the various “normal” micro-transactions through the store with my Turbine Points.  Well I’m quite happy that Turbine has finally figured this one out and put many of their “Paid Services” available for purchase via Turbine Points.  Full details are available in the FAQ, and for now you still have to submit a ticket and go through that process as opposed to just buying off the store.  But that makes some sense as they do need a little information from you :)   Here are the specifics:

  • Character Transfer (still not between EU and NA servers) $24.95 or 2,995 TP
  • Character Un-delete $19.95 or 2,395 TPs
  • Kinship Renames $12.95 or 1550 TPs

Thanks to Kurgan Nazzir for tipping me off to this (among others on Twitter) but Turbine has subtly made a change that many have been waiting for.  In a move that shouldn’t surprise anyone in the way they actually did it, Turbine instead of making a big announcement about it just updated forum thread concerning Paid Premium services to include the announcement.

News for all EU LOTRO Players

For those of you on the EU servers (and I know there are quite a few) it was announced today (thanks to Twitter for this one) that Turbine is taking over full operations of LOTRO as of June 1st, 2011.  According to FAQ you will need to perform a one time “migration” process.  It seems like a seamless transition with everything coming over automagically, but as we all know there are quite a few places for “Murphy” to pop out of the box and cause some problems.

One thing I did notice was that the Codemaster’s forums are not getting transitioned, so if there’s any good nuggets you might want to move them somewhere else as it sounds like they’re getting purged :(

Sapience of Turbine, in trademarked Incredisoon style, announced yesterday that Turbine will be opening four new servers for our gaming pleasure!

The servers will be named as follows:

  • Riddermark
  • Crickhollow
  • Dwarrowdelf
  • Imladris

These servers will be available on a first-come, first-”served” basis, starting September 8th for Head Start players, and September 10 for all others.  (Check here to see if you are eligible for the earlier start date.)  Sapience also noted that the forums for the new servers are up and running, in order to help the flocks of people organize themselves and their friends.  For those of you with 67 alts who just NEED to have 9 new characters to love, head on over to the new servers, make some new friends, and bring our well-renowned LOTRO community spirit to some new players arriving soon, very soon, ultra soon, uber soon…..  You get the idea!  ;)

Happy gaming!

Why Do You Play on the Server That You Do?

What made you pick the server you play on?

It is really a question I have been mulling over with myself lately.  Why did I choose to play one Landroval over the other servers?  I think the biggest reason I chose Landroval was that I have enjoyed RPing in past MMOs and Landroval is the unofficial RP server.  I liked having the option open to me if and when I were to decide to get back into it.

My thought process in deciding where to play:

VG247 had a chat with Turbine’s Aaron Campbell the other day. Apparently more is coming soon, but they’ve offered a small teaser about server merges:

We asked Aaron Campbell, live producer for the game, if the company had seen a drop off in player activity on certain servers or if there were plans to merge servers in the future.

“If anything, The Lord of the Rings Online is growing,” he told us. “We have no plans to merge servers.

Server Woes

I, like many people, have been kind of frustrated by the recent server issues. There are plenty of excuses to give for these things happening and I’d say many are fair and valid. Even so, it still remains an annoyance. I’m sure that’s true for Turbine as well as us players. It’s certainly not in their best interests to have to deal with such problems.

They have kept up on these things as well as I think could be expected. I don’t really know where the buck stops with this and I suppose it doesn’t really matter. I’m just hoping this latest round of fixes (which resulted in the most significant downtime thus far) makes a difference.

Chances are you might have noticed this, but the US servers for LotRO are down completely. Typically Turbine responds to this almost instantaneously (if not ahead of time), but it looks like this caught them by surprise.

I assume this is true for e veryone, but my launcher never gets past the initial Mines of Moria loading screen. It simply can’t find the data centers.
