Forest-born ReaverThe Lord of the Rings Online includes two expansions: Mines of Moria and Siege of Mirkwood. The second of these (Siege of Mirkwood) is strongly tied to skirmishes. As such, today we will look into Siege of Mirkwood to help decide if the expansion is worth purchasing.

How is Siege of Mirkwood tied to skirmishes? This is the expansion where skirmishes were introduced. An upshot if this is that six of the thirteen skirmishes currently available require ownership of the Mirkwood expansion.

The primary role of the Warden is tanking, but if you haven’t done it before you may be wondering how to learn and practice tanking.  Now there’s the obvious “go get in a group” answer that while true, isn’t always possible nor is it always the best option.  Luckily over the past few updates and expansions, there have been a number of additions that make learning how to tank an easier process.

heart The LOTRO Vault is hosting a Valentine’s themed contest where the prize is five full versions of LOTRO. That includes Mines of Moria, Siege of Mirkwood and an Adventurer’s Pack!

All they are asking for is to create a LOTRO themed Valentine out of a screenshot. They are asking for more than just a screenshot, they would like it to include a caption as well just so you are aware. Visit their site for official rules and such.

STUMBLING THROUGH THE MURK IN MIRKWOOD

I've spent the last few weeks exploring Mirkwood, leveling up my main character, replacing old legendary items, collecting new ixp runes, acquiring the +25 radiance armour pieces, running skirmishes and pioneering the new Barad Guldur 12-man raid with my kinship. In other words, it's been busy, and in that time I've sampled pretty much everything that's available in Siege of Mirkwood. So? Personally, I think this has been the best expansion since before Mines of Moria - in fact, the best expansion since the one which brought us the Rift - and I believe it vindicates those of us who insisted that the game would eventually get its act together again.

First of all, the visual design is absolutely brilliant. The various regions of south Mirkwood are all different in interesting ways, both visually and in terms of content, but they all share a common eeriness. I was particularly impressed by the way that the woods are, well, murky... In other words, they're not pitch-black, causing you to keep walking off cliffs, but actually communicate the feeling that something could be lurking in the gloom just a few yards away from you - as, in fact, it probably is. Actually depicting gloom rather than darkness is no mean feat, graphically, so congratulations yet again to the landmass designers at Turbine.

With the launch of Siege of Mirkwood, one of the first things that I wanted to do, after trying skirmishes of course, was to have a character run through the new Lone Lands content. This update to the Lone Lands had been one of the big talking points in the lead up to the SoM launch, and I had read Orion’s blog (you can find it here) with bated breath waiting for this revamped content. So, in preparation, I leveled a hunter to level 20, parked him in Bree, and waited for the launch.

So away I went! Off to see Saeradan at his cabin north of Bree (which is where Gandalf sends you now, instead of just to the Lone Lands). As I approached, I noticed that he now had the same symbol over his head that stables master do. What could this mean? Upon advancing the quest, I clicked on him again, and low and behold, he had a horse route to Candaith, in the Lone Lands! Not only that, but it was free. I was then treated to a nice ride through eastern Bree-Lands, going into areas that I had never been. What an experience. I arrived at Candaith several minutes later, ready to dive into questing.

Graalx2 posted on the official forums today, confirming that legacy tiers will be fixed soon:

We have found the issue with all of the legacies costs not decreasing as the legacy tiers up. It will be fixed in the next major patch (not tomorrow’s). There was a problem with rounding off that caused the numbers not to change as they should. This will correct all legacy costs for all classes.
