When we were a super young blog back in 2009, we had set up a forum for our fans. They went widely unused and became a haven of spammers that I simply couldn’t keep up with and decided to shut it down. Recently we’ve had some comments expressing a desire for CSTM to provide a forum apart from the comments to share with the CSTM community. This week’s poll is to ask if we set up a forum if you think you’d use it.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Last week Monday I was faced with some downtime after setting Baby Hobbit down for her afternoon nap and I got the bug to change up the site. The primary lesson here is probably: “Don’t give Goldenstar a day off” but hopefully my inspiration will end up better serving our blog readers.

There have been two big updates to the blog which I will go through.

New Blog Theme

We have purchased a new theme for the blog! The basic structure of the site has not been altered much. My goal was to have some familiarity with the site while adding some additional niceties.

If you listen to the podcast, you may have picked up that we cannot just let things be and that we are always looking to improve.  Recently we have started a mailing list to which we will be publishing updates and news; we have several projects in development that are coming to a head soon; and we are also looking at upgrading some of the equipment that we use for podcasting.  The entire staff is always trying to think of things to improve the blog and the podcast as a whole, however, sometimes when we make improvements there are some drawbacks that we don’t anticipate.

Today it was brought to our attention that some people who stream the podcast from their work computers are now unable to do so.  Well, as some might suspect this weekend we moved our podcast files over to a new host (cyberears.com) that we are trying that out as an alternative to our previous method of storing them on our web server.

LOTRO Community Site - HomeSeptember 8th was the day that Turbine took down their web sites to unveil their brand new lotro.com and community pages. I for one was excited. I was eager to see what sort of new features and options we’d have with the new community site.

Unfortunately the great unveiling didn’t go as smoothly as everyone would like. The sites were giving error pages, slow to open, blogs were empty or formatted goofy, permissions were messed up and profiles were all kinds of goofy. It had people annoyed, frustrated and even angry over the poor transfer to the live sites. However I’ve been able to notice improvements such as the site working much smoother and search results actually opening working pages which wasn’t happening for me earlier.
