Lord of the Rings Online allows you to play nine classes. Each class has its own style, challenges, and role in a group. I am engaging in my own altaholism project by playing several skirmishes with each of these classes.
I will run through each class in four level ranges that correspond to the rewards ranges for marks and bounties dropped by lieutenants and bosses. These are also approximately the same levels at which your soldier gains new skill slots.
| Level Range | Name | Number Soldier Skills |
| 20-29 | Recruit | 1 |
| 30-44 | Footman | 2 |
| 45-59 | Esquire | 3 |
| 60-70 | Guardsman | 4 |

The primary role of the Warden is tanking, but if you haven’t done it before you may be wondering how to learn and practice tanking. Now there’s the obvious “go get in a group” answer that while true, isn’t always possible nor is it always the best option. Luckily over the past few updates and expansions, there have been a number of additions that make learning how to tank an easier process.

When first leveling, Champions feel pretty one sided as pure DPS classes but as you pass level 15 and make your way towards 30 Champions start to get more fleshed out as a solid group class. Another huge addition to the class in this range, which comes at level 20, is the ability to wear heavy armor such that they’re not quite as squishy.
The other areas that see buffs in this level range are agro skills as you get a forced taunt which allows you to off-tank pretty well. I will caution you though that you should use forced taunt only when pulling off squishies as many tanks (including me) don’t like it when folks randomly force mobs off of them. A couple new AoE attacks and buffs pop up, and the Champ starts to see various skills impact targets with less then 25% health such that you become a finishing class.

This week we take a look at the Elf-Sire Soldier cosmetic items. I would like to thank both Pericles of The House of Blackrock on Windfola and Kaelin from my kinship, The Council of the Secret Fire for helping with the gathering of these photos. It is very much appreciated!
Remember, that each cosmetic costs 1 specific Campaign Mark and 77 Skirmish Marks and can be purchased from a Cosmetics vendor at any of the Skirmish Camps.

Skirmishes are one of the key elements of the Siege of Mirkwood expansion. They add a whole new dimension to the game, and have their own “rules” and “requirements”. One of the main components of skirmishes is the use of soldiers. There are 6 soldiers for players to choose from, and sometimes this choice can be a little daunting. Which soldier do I choose? Do I take a herbalist? We all need to be healed sometimes, right? Do I take a protector? If I can keep the enemies off me, I won’t need heals, right?
This post is not meant to be a detailed look at each and every single skill that the soldiers have. Nor is it meant to be a detailed look at where the soldiers end up when you level them fully. This post is meant to help those of you struggling to find the right soldier for your character class and play style.

I’m currently working on a post about Skirmish Soldiers and their abilities, and while doing some research, I found this post which included some links to screenshots of some of the cosmetic items available to soldiers.
There are more links in posts that follow the one that I linked, so keep scrolling down and you’ll find some more.

So, it’s been the second night of Mirkwood release, and although we had our own personal skirmish called “Battle of the Baby Hobbit Staying Asleep” we were both able to get in and finish the tutorial for the skirmish quests. However, I’ve been seeing some questions pop-up quite a bit and so I thought I would take some time to clarify on them as I can. If anyone has any other questions, answers, suggestions, and hints that they’d like to add, go ahead and add them in the comments! Then I will go ahead and add them to the post, with full credit of course.
- Are we stuck with the same soldier choice forever?
No, you initially start out with a warrior, but you can purchase additional traits after the tutorial with skirmish points. Once you purchase a trait to change their role, you then slot that trait in place of the Warrior one and voila you have a sage, herbalist, protector, etc. - Can I join a skirmish anywhere?
Per jwbarry: So long as you aren’t in combat, in the ettenmoors, falling, in a housing neighborhood, or one of a couple other limitations, you can join a skirmish from anywhere. Note: You will then be returned to the same place you were at when you joined the skirmish once the skirmish has ended. - Do we ever get more than one soldier to direct?
No, each player only gets one soldier. However, Captains and Lore-masters will still be able to call their pets in addition to their soldier. - I don’t see all the Skirmishes in my Skirmish Join panel!
It’s possible that you have not opened them yet. Skirmishes become available as your character levels. There are currently set to open: Read the rest of this entry »
