There was a rather interesting article posted this week on the Massively websites regarding Erebrandir's Horseshoe. It explored quite a few theories about the item which is still cloaked in mystery. However, the main reason I picked up on this post was because I still have this particular item in my ingame vault. As a result it got me thinking about the whole concept of hoarding loot. Lets face it, if you've been playing LOTRO for more than a year there is potentially a lot to hoard.

I think its fair to say that when you play an MMO, you bring a great deal of your own personality traits to the game. It certainly plays a part when making the choice of class for your primary character. Depending on your mindset you may choose a traditional name based on lore or you may pick something humorous. The entire process of creating an alt and customising each aspect of it, is our way of expressing ourselves. Okay enough of this faux psychology. With regard to possessions and personal bric-a-brac, I take a very spartan approach in my personal life. I like order. I do not like clutter. Everything has a place. I subsequently bring that mindset to the LOTRO.

In an announcement today, Turbine states that more vault space items will be added as a permanent option in the LOTRO Store starting tomorrow! We will now have the option to pay to increase our vault space to a maximum of 150 storage slots.

The option to increase to 135 was temporarily available at F2P launch and so if it seems familiar that may be why. It also cost 995 at the time so they have gone down in price. I think Turbine simply knows storage is their big seller and they need to make it available all the time and not just for specials.

Now I should warn you that these purchases will be applied only to the character that you are on. These will not increase all your vault space account wide!

vault1A Dev Diary written by Ransroth was released today concerning the upcoming changes to the vault system with the upcoming release of Free-to-Play on September 10th. There have been quite a few changes to the system about which people may find themselves conflicted; I know I was, but we’ll get to that later.

First, let’s take a look at some of the changes to the systems  and the new features that it will provide for all players:

THE ADVENTURER’S PACK

There appears to be some confusion at the moment over what exactly the new Adventurer's Pack which is being released in North America at the same time as the Siege of Mirkwood will include. Apart from the two extra character slots, interest has focused largely on the promise of "shared storage" between characters on the same account. Unfortunately, expectations that this means all storage will be common to all characters must be dashed; according to the official Turbine publicity posting "Answer the Call of War", shared storage will consist of nothing more than "a storage space capable of storing 20 items accessible by all your characters on the same LOTRO server/world".

The obvious implication is that this will consist of an extra storage module of limited capacity over and above what is currently available - my guess would be an additional chest. And it's virtually certain not to accept bound items, including those quite unnecessarily BoA decorative items. Not really all that much help, then, in terms of housekeeping; you might store a small range of potions there, or perhaps a few crafting materials... Better than a kick in the pants, of course, but far from earth-shaking. Read the rest of this entry »
