Orion’s starting to open up a bit more as he gives us some pretty hard details about what’s coming for the Warden class with Update 6.  While these are posted on his my.LOTRO blog, they’re still subject to change based on feedback.  Also, keep in mind this post is titled “Blog #1” so there will be more coming.

First up, he describes how Battle Preparations will work which sounds pretty slick.  Essentially, using the skill will turn builders and masteries no longer require a target and as such can be used outside of combat.  This will allow you to build and store a gambit pre-fight for up to 30 seconds.  I’m a little curious to see if there will be a cool-down for this skill.

Orion has a couple of quick posts up on the forums talking about the Warden changes coming for Update 6.  Nothing huge, but some indications of where he’s headed, and of course nothing is finalized yet.

His first post lays out 3 key ideas:

A day after Turbine’s “Guide,” TenTonHammer put out a guide like one could hope for – an actual guide that walks through the fight and helps folks prepare for it.

The guide walks through many aspects that you’ll need to handle as you try to take down the big guy:

Good Warden News in Update 5

Orion not only popped onto the forums, but he’s also discussing what he’s been able to get in for the class coming with Update 5.

  • HoTs will be significantly boosted to compensate for the incoming damage scaling
  • Changes to some skills to enable them to contribute to partial mitigations
  • He’s considering moving tactical contributions from Will to Might, but that’s not definite.
  • All bugs listed in that thread will also be addressed.

Good stuff for sure, I wish they’d look at leaches too but I guess beggars can’t be choosers.  The changes for mitigations could be huge, depending on how they play out.  I’m just hoping this doesn’t get added to Shield Mastery but are spread out somehow or tied to a stance.

There has been quite a bit of change lately with Isengard, and I wanted to put up a post that combined some of that for folks.

First up, for those of you out in Dunland you may have interacted with an NPC Andred out in the Gravenwood.  Personally, I had a horrible time trying to find the last two quests (the set is part of a deed) so I’m sharing the snapshot below to show you where I was standing when I was able to get these last two quests:

Wow, Turbine’s kicking out all sorts of news today – which I was hoping for since Gamescom is going on right now.  Today’s diary comes from Tim “Raskolnikov” Lang as he walks through a composite of all the changes to the class.  Not too much has changed from the earlier posts but there are some good nuggets.

One of the concepts he mentions up front is that they wanted the Captain to have 3 distinct trait lines as well as spreading the primary role of Buffing out to all the lines.  I’m torn on this one as I’m still not totally sold on the Captain really tanking, but possibly off-tanking will be more important and the Captain will be able to fill that role quite well.

Tanking the Forochel Sari-Surma Instance

Last week I ended up joining one of my normal groups in a late night run of the Sari-Surma instance in Forochel.  This was my first time in there, so I’ll admit I was a little nervous especially since I was tanking.  But luckily the mechanics were interesting but not too terribly tricky to get a hold of.  I actually think this instance is easier on the tank then others as the Osan (boss 2) and Drugoth (boss 3) fights seem to me to be more challenging for the group then on me.  Although, with that being said Drugoth hits for a TON so be prepared to watch your morale plummet!

I did manage to capture the fights via fraps, so enjoy!

LOTRO Isengard Guardian Changes

Mind you these follow the same normal caveats as all the other classes, but Orion posted Graalx2’s proposed changes for Guardians this morning.

I’m not going to go into specifics as honestly I don’t know the class well enough, but a couple things jumped out at me.

  • With the stat caps going away, they really wanted to focus on tanking.  It sounds as though without high mitigations you’ll get pounded by bosses with Finesse.
  • Quite a few skill tweaks, but honestly it seems more like tweaking then a revamp like some other classes have seen.  Again though this could be more a function of the stat changes impacting them more then others, or the class being generally solid already.
  • Tanking in Overpower stance won’t be discouraged assuming you can take the pounding.

One last point he makes is that he realizes Champs are getting a significant boost to their tanking and understands the concerns that might pose for Guardians (and Wardens).  This is something the team is going to closely monitor so hopefully we’ll all have place unlike the Moria days of Champs being the hands-down best tanks.

Big day for us Warden’s, Orion followed up from his previous post with a follow up!

He realizes the following:

  • fist is “useless”
  • masteries and never surrender “suck”
  • we need a power tap
    • I’m not sure we’ll get one, the epic gloves seem to resolve this greatly.

More on the Upcoming Class Updates

Orion posted again, this time on his MyLOTRO blog with all sorts of goodness.  First off, as many expected all the freep classes are getting updates for Isengard and he will be writing blog posts for each outlining the general idea behind the changes BEFORE things hit the test servers such that more people get a chance to comment early on.  Orion is mainly writing the blog posts with the dev team behind him, and he’s been tasked to write the Champion, Minstrel, and Warden classes.

Needless to say, I can’t wait for what’s coming and if they’re anything like what the champ write-up I’ll be quite happy.
