As a quick update to the Store Armour Issue, after today’s patch, I popped onto a few characters today and noticed the following:
- My level 24 RK only had access to the Tier 3 items, with a minimum level requirement of level 20.

- My Level 5 Burglar had access to Tier 1 showing level availability from 1 through 9

- And my level 15 Hunter had access to Tier 2 with level ranges from 11-20

Normally I don’t pay too much attention to what’s in the LOTRO store and more or less ignore the sale emails. If there are things in the Store I want, I’m more than happy to go and get them, and most sales of items pale in comparison to the point bundle sales they do frequently.
For the record, I’ve bought multiple TP packs (and I’m a VIP with my 500 TP/month stipend) and mainly purchase traits and tomes, and the occasional relic removal scroll. For me, these items in the store are purely items that allow me to better enjoy the game that I want to play as I could mostly get them in game if I had enough time and/or patience. They allow me to maintain multiple characters at the end-game and not get totally burnt out on things that I barely enjoy doing once, let again multiple times.

Even though I’m not playing Rift currently, I did notice something pretty darn cool from their press releases. They announced a beta version of an iOS app that allows you to interact with the game while you can’t get in the game. This is something I’ve always looked for from other games and they seemed to have hit on a couple of the main areas I’d want:
- Chat with Friends and Guild mates
- See Guild Wall postings
- Notifications of Zone Events
- Mini games for in-game loot

This past Tuesday, Merric was able to have a nice chat with Aaron Campbell, Producer for LOTRO, and Adam Mersky, Director of Digital Communications, from Warner Bros. Games/Turbine.
This interview primarily is about Update 5: Armies of Isengard. Adam mentioned having a date soon but it has not been released quite yet. We will keep you updated as to when we know Update 5 will be coming!

In continuing coverage on Update 5, Justin “Syp” Olivetti has written an article covering an interview he did with Adam Mersky, Aaron Campbell, Jeff Libby, and Joe Barry. In the article he not only covers the Instance Finder (including a screenshot of the UI!), the upcoming Epic Book, but also the fight with Saruman himself!
Of particular interest to me were the quirks that Justin talked about that come along with the Instance Finder; specifically that you can’t seem to choose a specific instance when you queue up in the Instance Finder. Instead you pick a category and once everyone is matched you get ported to a dungeon.

Last month Turbine hosted their annual Pumpkin Carving Contest and today the winners were announced! The LOTRO pumpkin winner is by Vror titled “The Flaming Eye”.
Holy cow this is awesome! I must admit I don’t think I’d would ever have considered actually lighting my pumpkin on fire. Well done Vror! For his carving and pyrotechnic work he will receive:

In a truant, but welcome Developer Diary Jeff “MadeOfLions” Libby discusses the new Epic Storyline released with The Rise of Isengard expansion as well as some of the technology used in creating it.
He starts off explaining that the main goal for the Epic Story is to visit as many of the “most exciting places” within Middle-earth,

Did you think that the Developer Diaries were over? Well, frankly so did we. However, proving us wrong yesterday saw the release of a Developer Diary containing information about Dunland itself by Jessie “Vastin” King.
So what is Dunland you may ask and why did the expansion take us there?

Another Developer Diary has been released; this time focused on Draigoch, the dragon who is the boss of Rise of Isengard’s new 12/24-man raid.
The diary states that one of the most important features of Draigoch was his physical aspect. Turbine’s goal was to make him large, but at the same time to create a fight that didn’t seem a bit silly in its nature:

Merric had a chat with Turbine’s Adam Mersky and Aaron Campbell. Merric was able to ask many questions submitted by our listeners but due to time limits, he was not able to ask them all. The discussion is about 30 minutes in length and I think you will really enjoy it!
We want to thank Aaron and Adam for their time. We appreciate any chance we get to speak with Turbine employees directly!
