There are quite a few known issues for Update 3 (including the Rift Skirmish), and it looks like it will be a couple weeks before these get addressed. That actually makes some sense as Sapience posted that they wanted to wait until all the EU transition was completed and working smoothly. Most likely a minimum of two weeks for that patch to hit the live servers.

Just as I poked fun at Update 3 not having a name, Turbine is quick to get the update page live showing what all is coming with this update scheduled for release May 23rd. Much of it is known, but I’m glad we can call it something other then Update 3
The Lost Legends of Eriador is pretty fitting considering what we’ve seen from the new spaces, and I’m curious to see if there are other ties to the rest of the storylines.
One thing that’s interesting is at the bottom there’s mention of “Free Early Access to the two new instances” for VIPs, that seems new and interesting. I wonder how they’re pulling that off?

During my continued adventuring yesterday my main character, Branadoc, finally hit level 50! Yep, after 3.5 years of existence I finally hit the Shadows of Angmar level cap and now there are only 15 more levels keeping me from the current cap!… Yay? I might, feasibly, see the current cap before Rise of Isengard is released but who knows right?
Now don’t take my comments above as showing me to be some sort of person who only aims for “end game”. I just want to have at least one level capped character on my account after 3.5 years you know? Then I can focus on my huge bevy of alts and look into all the different quest zones I haven’t experienced (mainly due to them coming out after I had already out-leveled them on my main).

This episode we spend a good deal of time talking about the new announcement of “Rise of Isengard” from Friday. We also have a list of items that we know are coming between now and Fall 2011 for those worried that there is nothing new between now and Isengard.
Goldenstar recalls logging in and playing her Runekeeper but doesn’t remember anything interesting happening. Merric is working on Enedwaith and made an attempt at the Watcher. Together they ran the School with friend Bryandt.

With today’s large announcement of Rise of Isengard, it appears that the primary fear amongst players is that we will be getting now new content between the November Update and Fall 2011.
Sapience addressed this concern in a post this morning:

Being the Sneaky Hobbit that I am, I am springing this post on y’all with no warm-up or intro!
Today Turbine announced that the next expansion for The Lord of the Rings Online will be coming to us in Fall of 2011. The Expansion is named Rise of Isengard to portray our arrival in that fabled area. Here is a short list of some of the features coming with the new expansion pack:
- Experience the Rise of Isengard – The Epic Story continues as the Grey Company makes its way south into Dunland, but troubles arise as their road takes them into lands where Dunlending forces, marshaled by the Wizard Saruman, prepare for war. The Rangers must seek new allies and face dangerous new foes, chief among them the traitor Saruman, whose web of intrigue threatens to endanger your quest, your friends, and your life.
- Increased Level Cap — Players will be able advance their characters up to level 70, gaining access to new traits, virtues, skills and class quests.
- Expanded Monster Play – LOTRO’s monster play system will get a major revamp including opening up the feature to all players, changes to monster player skills and advancement and a brand new region for players to battle for or against the forces of evil.

In my earlier predictions I did hit a couple of points dead on, but also quite wrong in some areas. Kate Paiz does lay out quite a bit of information in her Producer’s Letter.
Her comments on how they’re looking to develop things going forward was quite welcome as it echoes the thought that this is a new life for LOTRO and Turbine needs to shift its methodology to match that.
- They’re stressing that the need to listen to their players and also find good ways to better solicit that feedback.
- Continue to optimize the store, which I’m becoming an even bigger fan of so I’m excited to see what is planned.
- Quality storytelling is key, and this for me has always been a strongpoint for LOTRO and I’m happy to see this continued.

In this episode we discuss our first run of Glinghant. This didn’t go so well for us with some issue with re-spawning ghosts.
We also made our first visit to the Turtle, another first for us. A very successful and smooth run. Goldenstar even got a First Age Weapon!
