Welcome to LOTRO Epic A Day, where I guide you on an epic journey through Middle-Earth, one day at a time. Each Book of the Epic quest is separated into its own Day, with Side-Days for leveling up to the next book. Any plot spoilers are contained within the story overview in “Turning the Pages”. Gather up your belongings and hit the road, a new Day awaits!

We have traveled a long distance in our journeys; we have battled wolves in the Shire, orcs and Evil Men in Angmar, bears in Forochel, goblins and bugs in Moria, and vicious orcs in Mirkwood. The inhabitants of these regions have been fairly welcoming (those who didn’t try to kill us), but that changes as we venture south into lands less well-traveled. A new power is rising, which means new alliances must be made, but we are fortunate to travel with some old friends.

After a bit of a break and a re-recording, the latest episode is finally up.  I talk about the delay in the show, but fear not I should be back on a more normal schedule from here on out.  Full show notes are available over on TGN-Stratics.

Also, I do reference my interview with “Rowan” quite a bit, so if you’re behind you might want to catch up with that first.

Re-working all my Legendary Items

On of the big tasks I’ve been working on lately has been getting all my Legendary items squared away on my various characters.  It has been in 2 primary ways with the items themselves as well as the Relics on them.  I put up a more detailed relic comparison post over on TGN-Stratics for those who have been asking about it.  The Second Age class item reward from the Epic line comes in quite handy as I’m only short a 2nd age weapon on my Minstrel to have all level 65 2nd age items on my characters.  I haven’t gotten as lucky as I’d like with the reforges, but with the legacy scrolls I’m still walking around with much nicer items.

The other thing I will own up to is buying the relic removal scrolls from the store, and I’m sure I will buy more as time progresses.  Once was purely a mistake as I slotted my old Tier 9 in the wrong weapon, and the other was because I had to slot the relics to feel better walking into Ost Dunhoth.  Whether these should or should not be available elsewhere is certainly up for debate but for the price (195 TPs) I’m still more or less ok with them.

New LOTRO Echoes of the Dead Loot

With all the new Echoes of the Dead content there’s quite a bit of new toys to go out and get.  I’ve been checking out some of them, but certainly not all as I’ve yet to be in-game nearly as much as I’d like.  I’m planning to clean all these up, but I wanted to start with some of these.

First agers have already started popping up and it appears the crafting drop needed drops from many of the Tier 2 chests within Ost Dunhoth.  They certainly look pretty, but I will most likely defer to DPS classes at least in the near term as it will make the most difference for them.

<Update> Check out the Cliff Divers of Middle Earth Kinship forums as they have a listing that’s pretty current sorted by instance and by item slot.  Thanks to them for not only posting it but making it public! <Update>

Great First Day in Echoes of the Dead

So far I’m having a great time with this content.  I got done most of what I wanted to before the update so I immediately jumped into the epic storyline.  I’m about half way through it and really curious how things will turn out.  Getting to see and experience the story in Gondor was great fun, and that session play was all sorts of win.

In addition to that I did get in a couple of instance runs, and wow are they amazing.  We ended up making some attempts at the Lost Temple (stuck at boss 2) before our group broke up for the evening leaving 3 of us to tackle Stoneheight.  These instances certainly are more challenging with all sorts of new puzzles to work out.  Lost Temple felt much more challenging but Stoneheight did have a couple nasty parts as well.  Or maybe we just figured it out better :)   I didn’t end up with anything too exciting from the loot, but there are some very interesting pieces, and lots of fun all around!

Today’s news from Turbine was the announcement of the release date, March 21st gives us 10 days before launch of the new content.  As always before new releases I try to get geared up and ready for the new fun adventures and this update is no different.

I know this might make some sad, I’m probably going to be shelving my Champion for a little bit as the prospect of getting back into raiding with multiple almost ready characters is just too appealing.  She’s not getting a perma-benching but just sent down to the minors for a little bit.  However, this does bring up a bit of an issue as my Captain and Minstrel are pretty ugly at the moment.  My Warden on the other hand is in pretty good shape, but depending on how ambitious I get (and if I can pull myself out of Telara) I will probably work on her a bit too.

For the next ten days, I’m going to challenge myself to accomplish a few things:

LOTRO’s Bullroarer Updated to Echoes of the Dead

The initial patch notes are up and include many of the things we expected, but for me there were a few things that really stood out.

  • Relics can no longer be removed from Legendary Items
    • But Rowan (and Sapience) have posted this might change
    • And ZC posted that my suggestion (ok, lots of others had the same idea) will be implemented
      • on launch, all current relics will be un-slotted
      • We’re moving from 9 tiers of relics to 6, to minimize the grind
      • So yes you will lose them, but it will be easier to get them back

All I can say is wow, this update is shaping up to be HUGE!  We’ve already heard about:

and on top of all that the latest update confirmed by Sapience is that PvMP will be updated as well.  I suggest keeping your eye on this thread and the dev tracker as there seems to be a LOT of news coming out about these updates.  And remember, fast on the heels of the Echoes of the Dead is the Anniversary update which will bring another raid cluster and hopefully the other class revamps!
